I need some nutritional advice...

I've been steering pretty clear of refined sugars altogether. Today at work we had a party and they gave out free cotton candy....

it was sure yummy...but now i'm on a sugar low...
sluggish, sleepy, grumpy and a little sick feeling...

So the question is...whats the best food to pull me out of this? that will have longlasting engery benifits and pull me out of the shock?

I have to admit, I have not changed my diet at all since beginning my journey through the world of triathlon back in March. 6 days/week of training without fail, and I'm still eating 3 meals a day, with a nice dessert after lunch and dinner, and a Coke/Pepsi with lunch and dinner. I don't eat all crap, but definitely love my burgers, pizza, brownies, cake, cookies for dessert, etc. I'm sure I would be faster/better if I went on a full-on health nut diet, but I would be one grumpy triathlete! I've lost 20lbs in that 5 months of training too.

i know it's too late now, but some good protein source helps! (string of lowfat cheese, cotage cheese, eggs, protein shake, etc.) well, it helps me. the best is to consume it immediately before or after. protein promotes glukagon secretion, and glukagon reduces insulin secretion, which is raised too due to sugar intake so sugar level drops too much creating the need for more sugar.... something like this.
