"The 2009 Felt S32, B16 and B12 forks have been recalled. Felt is asking that the bike be returned to an authorized dealer for fork replacement. Felt has forks in stock to ship immediately so the bike will only be down a week or so."

Please share with anyone who needs to know. If you/they have this bike, contact your dealer.

Thanks, you may want to post that in Tri Talk as well. They actually ride bikes over there

It's not posted on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission or the Felt web page, do you have anymore information about it?

Thanks.

It was just posted from my LBS on their facebook today. I did a little google search, and couldn't find anything either...maybe they are wrong or maybe it is very new news?

If it pans out, I will also post on tri forum, I just feel so out of place there :-)

There's a similar thread on Slowtwitch and it sounds like this is legit. According to the posters in that thread, the recall is for 2009 S32, B12, and B16 bikes. Contact your local Felt dealer for a replacement fork. They should replace the fork with the 2010 fork.

I wrote my LBS, and they said all the info they have is on their site here:

http://www.wgwheelworks.com/Recall-info.html

it says there that it won't be on the Felt site for a week or so

The recall is legit. You need to take your bike to an authorized Felt dealer. They will order a replacement which Felt will overnight.

The recall is for all 2009 S32, B16 and B12 forks. There is a risk that the carbon steerer tubes will break.

Thanks, all !

I'm not riding right now but I'll take it in to get fixed while they're still fixing for free.

I'm going to assume that they will paint the 2010 forks to match the 2009 color scheme... riiiight????

Slight hijack, but speaking of carbon steer tubes breaking, it looks like Trek has been having some problems too.

I just got off the phone with my Tri store. No, there is no official recall. If there were one Felt must send authorized dealers notification and they have not gotten anything yet. They also read ST, BT, and trifuel and have seen the rumors of it but there's nothing as of yet.

Felt does have a recall of a road bike but that's a different setup than the tri bikes mentioned.

2nd that.  Just talked to Mox Multisport in Chicago.  They said the same exact thing.  If there were a true recall they would have to notify all dealers.

Change number #6,422.

I had to call Felt for a completely unrelated matter (was funny but true) and they said to cease riding and take it back to the dealer now that the dealer will fax a form and they'll ship out the new fork as soon as they receive the form.

Wonderful, I lose my bike for a week. aarrrrrrrgggggggggg. I LIKE that bike. Well, better than faceplanting at 35 MPH, I guess.

Maybe get a more pro-active bike shop that will make a call for you.

I called Felt myself becasue it is my daughters bike and it is truly a voluntary recall.  Considering Felt is the source, I am going to take their word for it.

ETA: I should have read all the way down.  Daniel seems to have already covered this.

Guess that's what I'll do.  Seems odd that a recall on a fork that may be prone to crack while riding would be a "voluntary recall".

Terminology.  The Toyota recalls were "voluntary" too.  That just means that the company is doing it without the government telling them they have to.  More of a PR move than anything.

Confirmed this today.

Called LBS who has a contact with Felt.  Felt is 2 days away from sending out worksheets to all authorized dealers.  Once those sheets are in, the LBS will fill them out with your info, mail it back to Felt, who will then ship a fork back to the dealer.  Felt advised LBS that there have been 7 failures so far and to stop riding immediately.

My LBS will not be charging for the install, so I will probably buy some stuff from them for taking the time to replace it and deal with this.  It is not their fault the forks are bad.

Got mine fixed at my LBS only 3 days after first calling them.

FELT shipped out the replacement fork right away, and I'm already good to go! Plus the shop gave me a free tune up!
