The north winds have been slamming the southshore for over a week now.  When the wind blows out of the north, it really makes it rough on the southshore.

I'll update tomorrow as to the lake conditions, and I'll have my stuff with me to swim, but I'll also have my stuff to run.  If I can't swim, i'll br running 8 miles around a 9:40 pace.

I'll have my swim gear.  Winds have died down tonight, so hopefully it will be calm and not too cold.  I don't have a wetsuit.  I am doing a tri this weekend, so I want to see what the water will feel like. I am not up to your pace on an 8 miler yet,  but I am working at it.  I think there is a time trial on the lakefront, so if I can load up my bike, I may do that.

I will look for your update tomorrow.

We've got some white caps, but the good news is, the wind is supposed to die down some.  bad news is, it is coming straight out of the northeast, which is the worst case scenerio for the swim hole.

I'll be out there around 4:45 and in the water no later than 5 p.m.  Black Suburban...Adam is the name.

Not only has the wind dies down, but it also switched directions.  Now coming more out of the east.  Looks like a good day to swim.

The Tri Group that I am in will start swimming in the Lake in April. Ray is going to check the water temperature soon and I will post it on here once he finds out. We will begin swimming on weekends and you are surely welcome to join us.

LUMCON shows the water at 60.8 degrees, still a little chilly.

I am trying to train for my first Tri.  But I don't know where you guys swim in Lake Pontchartrain.  I was at the beach today at the end of Elysian fields(can you guys tell that I am not native.  I moved here in 2001)  but it was filled with no swimming signs.  I didn't know if it was normal to throw caution to the wind and ignore official signs.

Anyone swimming at the lake since the spillway was open.  Would like to try it out either tomorrow or Thursday this week.  Also able next Monday or Tuesday.

I hate to be the guy that bumps ancient threads, but I'm bumping an ancient thread.

Does anyone still swim in the lake in the Mandeville area?  If so, anyone going out this weekend?

Yes I do..i swim at that state park.  its just easier to go from there. Its really shallow but you can get out there a bit and its not to bad.  I usually go out on sat. which is when my coach has me scheduled to do one.  The last few times I went out in a wetsuit only because im not big on chilly water.
