I am signed up and this will be my first Tri.  I am looking forward to this event. I have been swimming pretty well in the pool all winter/Spring (1800 yds 3 times a week) but The OWS part is worrying me. I swam today with my wet suit at Dorchester Park Lake for the first time and it appears that I have more work to do !

I will be making my decision after tonights OWS/practice.

It would be interesting to know how many other "first-timers" there are - here's 2.

Mrs. Witty loves to talk doesn't she?Cool

John you are looking good in the pool and will do fine

This was my first tri as well....don't let the swim freak you out. Start in the back to the outside, let everybody swim away for ten seconds then go!

I'm assuming registration will be up.  The biggest year was when we had all the bicentennial shenanigans going on for the county, but last year I think there were only 93 or 94 final times (includes relays).  The transition area looked like it BARELY had any bike racks!

I'm pretty sure that they'll see a big boost in numbers.  The tri club alone has 75 people in it and I'd be shocked if at least half don't do it.  =)

BTW, I heard through a coworker that her friend plans on doing the whole swim with elementary backstroke.  So, just goes to show the hardest part is signing up for the race! =

I saw you!!! There was an open water swim meet on Sunday and you were out there! At first I was like whoa... wetsuits? They told me no wetsuits, so I told them I wouldn't race, cuz I am a wus, then I realized it was a dedicated tri-peep! Yay!

slow and steady gets you to the finish line, just wish they would do something with the bike course, its not safe (or fun) hopefully the weather will be nice.

OK - I'm in.  I just dropped the registration in the mail today.  So, what do I need to know about this race?  I've never done this particular race.

The swim is straight forward just a triangle course.  The bike has moderate hills, the bad part is that you have a long down hill towards a busy intersection and you have to stop in the middle of a down hill and turn and climb back up it.  Its a good idea to shift to a gear to get you ready to climb before you hit the turn around.  The run is an out and back but about 1 mile in they have us run up the side of a dam also know as the "damn dam" half of the run is on a paved trail and half is on a grassy trail on top of the damn.  overall not a too too difficult course but it has its quirks.

very upset that I will not be able to do this tri this year.  I tried everything to get out of work but it is a no go.  Good luck to all the racers.

Bummer!!!

The Broome County Triathlon Club does small, non-competitive tris at the park now.  Check out www.broomecountytriathlonclub.com if you're interested!  Last week people swam, biked and ran the course, not for time.  To do the swim, it's a $30 fee to the Whitney Point Swim Club (for lifeguard and other fees) PLUS you'd need to be a USA Swimming member (I think it's $56/year) OR a US Masters Swimming member (I think it's less expensive) OR a Broome County Triathlon Club member ($15 for now through December-includes a shirt).

Not that I know of.

BUT, last year I did them on my own.  I would just swim one or two times around with the group and then head out on my bike (I leaned it against the pavillion) and did the route and came back.

I really think it was upper 70s.  I bet next week it'll be borderline on the wetsuits.  I looked around the Broome County Parks site and couldn't get temp or water quality info.  Interesting, huh?

if someone reminds me for this Monday, I will bring a thermometer so that we can check the water temp at OWS.

okay who wants to take bets on tomorrow's water temp??

BTW, I'm thinking about bringing my bike to OWS tomorrow so I can practice transitions.  I'd like to try getting on my bike with the shoes clipped in for Saturdays race!
