Age Group Rank = 12/39
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:25 and washed my hair in the sink because it was sooo gross...haha...I had a poppyseed bagel for bfast and some GU Brew. Found a parking spot and set up my transition spot.
Event warmup:

Did about 5min of swimming before the race start.
Swim
  • 07m 46s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 33s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good swim overall. Could probably be faster. Got caught up a bit at the start of the women's wave trying to get around some people...I just need to force myself to the front of the start line so I don't have to deek people out for 100m.
What would you do differently?:

Position myself closer to the front of the start.
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Kind of slow. Slipped a bit on my wet suit.
What would you do differently?:

Get a better system!
Bike
  • 42m 8s
  • 20 kms
  • 28.48 km/hr
Comments:

So...here goes...was going really well...then...

I had a turn after a mild descent and I was in a big chain ring...the turn was immediately followed by a fairly steep, short climb. I tried to shift down and it wouldn't work...so I tried again and jumped my chain!!! I realised right away. The guy who was behind me on the climb said "you're chain if off!" to let me know, I said I did know and thanks and he said "bummer"...Yup bummer. Anyways got the chain back on and ran up the rest of the hill to avoid having to mount on the hill. Ugh. Lost a few minutes and a bunch of people cruised by :(

Overall the pace was good and my time would have been really good...but technically difficulties hindered me!
What would you do differently?:

Not jump my chain!
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Had a bit of trouble getting my shoes on. The guy who won the sprint had just come in! Haha. The girl next to me in transition and I looked at one another and said "someone is already done?".
What would you do differently?:

Maybe my coordination was just off today. Eye-foot coordination
Run
  • 25m 31s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 06s  min/km
Comments:

Actually didn't lose to many places overall on the run like I usually do! Pretty happy with the split but I would like to be a bit faster still.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, I felt it went fairly well.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and ate some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Chain falling off on the bike and coordination in transition.

Heck of a spot to drop the chain.  Way to recover and put together a solid race.  Nice job!

Good job! Way to still finish in the top 1/2 of the bike even though your chain popped off and you had to walk it up that hill.  And it's great that you didn't let this affect you mentally for the rest of the race!

Great race!  Solid mental effort in not letting the chain get to you.  Top 1/2 finish... Nice!

That was a great race by you.  I heard that there was tons of contact in the swim.  Keep up the good work!
