Pre-race routine:

No routine. Just get to the site as soon as I can so I have time to get ready.
Event warmup:

I did a light run for 2km's or so, a little stretching and lots of water.
Run
  • 07m 30s
  • 2 kms
  • 03m 45s  min/km
Comments:

I was a minute faster then the 2km run at milton. I was more prepared for the fast start this time. I found myself in no mans land between the "more advanced" runners and the not so "advanced runners.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, it went well.

Comments:

Things didn't go well on the bike. Around 15km's in I got some major cramps in my calves that stayed with me the rest of the bike portion. That cost me a bit of time as I had to switch to an easier gear so I'd have less stress on my legs. I've also noticed in my two duathlons that I'm a pretty good "climber". I seem to catch or pull away from people on the hills. But on the flats I'm caught and past. Maybe a tri bike may help with that, I don't think My Trek Madone is ment for these events. but my time was still ok
What would you do differently?:

Drink and stretch more before the race. I've never cramped up like that.
Transition 2

It was all good

Comments:

I'm amazed. I thought this is were it would all go wrong but I think it went great. My best 10k time. I soon found a pace that I could just mantain for the whole course and with 3km's to go I had some extra gas left in the tank so I pushed it and that's what got me under the 50 minute mark. Only problem was those cramps I had on the bike leg moved from my calves to my quads. It sucked but not enough to slow me down
Post race
Warm down:

Lay in the shad and drink up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

CRAMPS

Event comments:

The bike sucked because of the cramps but my runs were great. I did good.
