What are your favorite choice wheels for training on your tri bike - I might be looking to buy some new ones and want to see what holds up the best for us big guys

PLEASE ADD YOUR WHEELS

They do make Clyde versions of Zipps, I believe.  I use HED 3s, pretty much guaranteed to be bombproof

Ah, since that was your original question

I bought a set of Mavic Aksiums for my tri bike.  Anywhere from 220 - 240, only had to have them trued once over thousands of miles.  I bought them to replace the stock bontragers where the rims were forming cracks near the spoke holes

Road bike, I just use the cheapie Shimanos that came on it (not sure which ones they are).

Many would also recommend an Open Pro 32 spoke rim or equivalent for training for bombproof.

I have also heard good things about Neuvations, quaility- and price-wise

I thinnk unless you're going light carbon, you don't have to worry too much, but I'd inspect the rims semi -regularly

I'm on American Classic Victory 30's and they are great!  I've hit potholes, expansion joints, chip/seal cracks, etc, and never had a problem!  I use them for training and racing and they hold up without issue.  To top it off, I got them cheap (<$500.)

Being 280 im rough on wheels.  Got the Mavic Aksuim's as well this summer, pound on them daily have yet to have an issue.   I rode some zipp 404/808 2 weeks ago, rep said there good for 225, but they make a MAX version of each.  He also said its not anything to do with structure, just aerodynamics with the weight limit.
I would love to try some HED3's

My Neuvation Aero M28s are very solid. I use them for everything from training to racing.

I have a couple of questions. Not very tech oriented.

I am a clyde (275)  and just today I manage to blow out a tire about 25 miles into a bike ride.  Carried the bike to a local LBS and they fixed the tire and told me the tire was not running true (I knew this so no big suprise and I have had the wheels adjusted several times by different LBS shops but after a long ride they don't seem to hold)  Got back on the bike and rode another 15 miles only to get another flat in the same tire.  I think in a year I have had 6 flats which seems kind of high to me.  Would something like the mavic aksium wheelset help with keeping the wheels true and limit flats with this? Also what about more durable tubes or tires?  What route would be best for me. (I also only ride sub $800 bike so a $2000 set of tires won't work)  Finally with the wheelset I see that there are Shamino and campolona (Sp?) versions. What is the difference?  (My bike has Shamino parts so I assume that is what I would get but wondered how they differed)

Great thread. My bike came stock with Mavic CXP22 wheels, and I broke a spoke. And then another spoke, and then another. I finally bought some Xero-Lites on a recommendation from someone at my LBS. They were reasonably priced and I needed a quick fix to replace the Mavic's. Unfortunately, just last week, I broke a spoke on the Xero's and it appears I may be in the market for a new set of wheels again. Sigh.

I also suffer from frequent flats. I'm going to try running more pressure and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip.
