Subject: Will a trainer damage my bike?
I was thinking of getting a bike trainer and I am curious if there is a chance of the trainer some how damaging my bike?  If there is I will just use my old bike on it. I am guessing no but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thanks!

If you drop it on it, maybe.  Otherwise, no

Most trainers I've seen attach to a special skewer on your rear wheel.  The only other thing that's touching the trainer is your tire.  Pretty safe.

They don't harm the bike but do hasten the demise of tires.

I had to take extra caution when using my P2 in a trainer.  For whatever reason, the two trainers that I had it mounted in (CycleOps- bike shop & Kurt Kinetic- mine) would rub against the frame near the area where the skewer was inserted (I'm not familiar with the tech. terms for the actual parts of the bike).  To eliminate the rubbing, I had to place a piece of old rubber tubing between the bike and the machine.  My P3 does not rub.

It won't damage your frame.

It will put wear on your tire, and it will put wear on your drivetrain...but I think those are givens.

My back tire was showing way more wear than my front.  I just bought new tires yesterday, bike shop suggested saving my old front tire to use on the trainer this winter.  Good advice.

Without good ventilation you will sweat like crazy (and even with ventilation) The sweat alone can be hard on metallic frames and components. Sweat is also damaging to hardwood floors.

The little plastic knob on my rear skewer is chewed up, but other than tire wear I think that's it.

And I'm pretty sloppy about putting the bike on and off the thing too, so YMMV!

I highly recommend a trainer tire.  My trainer wore my tires quite a bit so I switched to a trainer tire for over the winter.  It held up very well.

compared to the open road? It's much easier on your bike.

Will it damage it? USE in general will do that. But in the way you are asking, the worst things are maybe some paint chips at he rear skewer and the need of a good old well used tire to throw on your rear wheel... and of course a sweat rag.
