Crossroads Triathlon - TriathlonSprint

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 13m 13s
Overall Rank = 36/286
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 3/???
Pre-race routine:

Slept at a friend's house since there were 8 women at my house on Friday night up until 2 am gabbing. They were in town for a baby shower on Saturday for out oldest daughter.
Event warmup:

Short spin on the bike.
Swim
  • 08m 41s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

I sprinted the first 150 yards or so to break from the pack and find clear water. Between the first and second buoys I felt a bit slow and awkward. When I rounded the final bouy for the last 150 yards home, I had my rhythm established and really flew.
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

T1 was fine.
Bike
  • 41m 41s
  • 15 miles
  • 21.59 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike went fine. Still working to get over 22 mph for my race avg. Feel like I'm very close to breaking thru.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

Yikes! This was a point to point race. The swim was in a lake outside of town, then we transitioned to the bike and rode into town and T2. In T2, my mind played a cruel trick on me and was looking for my spot back at T1, so I spent about 15 seconds wondering where the hell my stuff was. Kind of the same feeling you have when you wake up in a strange bed and need a few seconds to figure out where the hell you are.
What would you do differently?:

I always run through my transitions as I'm approaching them, but I didn't think ahead when coming in on the bike about where my T2 spot was.
Run
  • 20m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

I've done this race twice now and have never felt good on the run. Don't know why. It is nothing but flat and should set up well for an EZ, fast run. I'm happy with my time, just feel like I should have felt better running.
Post race
Warm down:

Grapes, banana, water and a quick adjustment from a chiropractor.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Maybe the temps, but I've raced and trained in lots of heat this year with no problems.

Event comments:

I had a lot of fun at this race. I know the organizers quite well, and I enjoy doing their race. I was happy to improve my time and get a plaque. As to timing of the race, they do a great job, except this year for some reason they didn't post how many people were in each age group.

Awesome race again, Kevin. Sorry it took me this long to read your race report. That point to point thing always sounds a little scary to me. I have enough trouble remembering one transition. Great job all around!
