Anyone doing this race? If you have run it before, please give me a heads-up on what to expect. I have heard the trail run seems a little longer than 3.1 and is a bit challenging. Thanks all.

It will challenge all types of athletes that compete on race day.

We heard people say the run course seemed long due to no one running a really low time. Our group used online tools, bike GPS and watch GPS multiple times to get the course as close to 3.1 as possible.

All in all, a really nice venue and the cheapest tri in NC by far!

I am really looking forward to Mayo Lake.  Trail running is fabulous!!  I love running the single track trails at Falls Lake.  Trail running is naturally slower than road running so if you go by the time on your watch your miles will seem a bit longer.  This effects everyone so don't expect to see any pr's on the run.

If you are not a trail runner then take advantage of this opportunity and get in a few practice trail runs in your area before Mayo Lake.  You might just discover the magic of trail running.  Medoc Mountain, right here in NC, offers one of the best trail races in the world!!!

The entry fee is only $30 for the Mayo Lake Triathlon and FS Series stages this race so you know it will be a high quality event.

If triathlons were not challenging then how many of us would stop doing them?

I hadn't planned to do this race this year but I think I might!  I really enjoyed this last year and I didn't mind the trail run at all, if anything is provides great shade!

I remember the swim being funny because you start in water and there are old Christmas trees under your feet, kinda weird but the water was like glass so no complaints there.  The bike was a good mix of rollers from what I remember.

And this is one of my favorite race shirts- always a plus in my book!

I am in.  So is my wife.  It'll be her first official sprint distance race (she's done a super sprint), and longest OWS.  We're working on that now...

Really looking forward to this race.  Nice venue, close by, and a chance to see some new faces/real estate!

I'm thinking about this one, too. It's like my race season ended in June and now I have to plan a separate fall season. Inexpensive is always on my short list and I love trail running. Too bad I let my training fall off a cliff; this race is already kind of close.

Bill, hopefully I won't "accidentally" grab the wrong bike with nicer wheels. Cool

Ha!  Wish those were mine...I do need to see if they're available though.  Even if they're not any faster, I love the sounds they make!

Did this last year and I would highly recommend it. Beautiful course. Of course FS always puts on a good event and although I was one of the ones complaining about the long run course, I still had a blast running on the trail.

Can't beat the price either!

I am in. You guys convinced me to sign up. I like trail running but have not done that in awhile. This will be my first open water swim too.

I'm getting excited for Mayo Lake, more for the camaraderie than the race.  It'll be the first race my wife and I have done together since 2005 (UNC Wellness Super Sprint), and we'll be racked side by side!  After spending a week up in the mountains climbing hills, I'm looking forward to some more rolling terrain.  By the way, them boys (and girls) up near Boone can seriously put a hurting on hill climbs.  Ouch.

Side note: mass has its place in cycling; it's the descent.  I was cruising down the Blue Ridge Parkway from Moses Cone to 321 in Blowing Rock, in full tuck, as streamlined as I could be, on my non-aero Giant roadbike, when a 6'2", 200+ lb. dude on a Specialized came cruising past me.  I was going 40+.  I had handed the hill to him on the way up, he handed it right back to me on the way down!

I do not know TriLatta, but the run at Mayo is almost entirely trails. On the plus side it is shaded. On the muns side it has lots of stumps, roots and knots, lots of sand and gravel, and LOTS of uneven terrain and "gulleys." That is the reason I am not doing it this year. Swim and run are great though.Hope that helps.

Come and spectate, I'll have samples!!  Missed getting you some at Pinehurst.

TriLatta is pretty much all trails too, need someone who has done both so I can compare.
The knee isn't really ready, but it will be fun to see friends again!

There's a Roxboro location Located at 2780 Durham Road Roxboro, NC 27573.  Can't think of a better way to celebrate a race than bbq and nanner puddin.
