What have you got to brag about lately

Here's mine.

In my third season of regularly training for triathlon's and I have been working on going faster.

In the last two weeks I finally crossed the 20 mph average speed on a very hill 15 mile bike route that I do regularly and just today I did two back to back sub-6 minute miles running during lunch.

Now if I could just take the time to learn to swim faster than the lady in the next lane who is 7 months pregnant and the 80 year master's swimmer who looks his is skin is two sizes two large.....

Took the early part of the year off to prep and pass my 4th degree testing, and now within a month of coming back I've dropped my 4 mile training pace from 8:30 to 7:45/mile.

Great job on the bike.
I know your pain on the swimming.  We just keep it.
I finally broke the 8 minute mile on my run.  Not big to most but big to me.

Didn't get dropped on the group ride today. Victory!

Also, rode 93 miles Sunday, which was a big jump for me and huge in my confidence for completing my first IM this Sept.

Did a weekly 5k that is organized by a local running club. Went 20:49 last week and was trying to go sub 20 today - got to 20:04. DOH! At least there's room for improvement next week!

The run course is very similar to a tri that I'm doing on July 10th, so it's good practice.

I finished my 7.5 km run in under an hour, and a 5 km in under 40 minutes.  I know that's probably excruciatingly slow for most of you, but since I started out running 2 minutes, walking 4 minutes, with a 6km/hour pace, it's a pretty big jump for me!  Now if only I could figure out why I can't seem to get my speed up on the cycling side...

  I'm guessing he shorted the S&P 500.

First honest-to-goodness large group ride over the weekend.  Didn't get dropped...though have to admit I was hanging on off the back for dear life towards the end.  My cycling is and always has been teh suck.

Finished my first Single Speed mountain bike race on a course that required more climbing than I care to even talk about.  Only owned a SS for a couple months so not use to the science behind picking the right gear or have 2000 cadence on the down hill  Was bought as a training bike but decided to race at last minute.  I finished dead last.  Main reason is on second lap I lost my Garmin 305 Edge so I abandoned the race to save myself $$$.  Never found it but somebody did turn it in.  Thankfully.

Finished 3000 yards in the pool with a sub 1:55/100 pace. I still remember less than two years ago how much of a struggle 50 yards were.

Swam 750 meters today and it felt great and *almost* effortless!  Two weeks ago I couldn't swim 50 meters without stopping.  Had enough in me to do 2X100 and then 2X50 at a faster pace.   The swimming is starting to click!

Finished my first sprint on the 19th, came in 165th overall and 20th in my age group.  But, I was really surprised that I came in 5th in my AG in the swim with a 9:24 for 656yds.  Turns out the swim is my strength....had no idea!

Was nervous about the swim distance for my first HIM in August. Did an OWS with the masters on Saturday on the race course and swam 1.8 miles without stopping and actually passed some people! Very exciting for me!

I hung on with people at the back of the middle of the pack at track this morning. I'm not a fast runner but not being last today helped boost my self esteem. The coach moved me up a lane at Masters this month. I'm at the back of the lane but am enjoying chasing the faster swimmers.

I can't wait to race in a couple weeks and see if these improvements translate to the course.

Finished my first 10k in 1hr! Exciting since I didn't think I would ever be able to run under 10min miles this year, let alone at a high altitude. Also, I told Maxpowers that I wouldn't be doing anything other than 5ks and sprints. Especially since running is my least favorite sport

It's amazing when you realize what your body can actually do!

Oh and I am so proud of you!

I've only competed in 3 half mary's in my running career (9 months).  One being a half in november 2009, one being the first half of the eugene marathon in may 2010, the last being the second half of the eugene marathons.  My times were 1:43:07, 1:43:14, and 1:51:ish respectively.

My recent success is that I completed my 4th half marathon, over 3000 feet higher altitude than I've ever run in. I took 8 minutes off my record for a time of 1:36:01.  I ran my heart out that day and decided in about the last half mile I should keep the same pace, and conserve some energy (really thought I was gonna hurl, or collapse at the finish line).  Sure enough i missed 3rd place in my age group by 9 seconds, and didnt get a medal

Finished 28th out of 1399 runners, 4/19 in my age group.

I couldnt be happier!

-Max
