I had a very bad muscle tear in my right calf 3 years ago. I was on crutches for 2 weeks, and couldn't run or bike for a long time. I have found that the compression sleeve "helps" support the muscle on long runs. I am not exactly sure as to the why, maybe a mental thing, but on runs over 45 minutes I wear it, and it never flares up. I tried running a half mary without it (forgot it at home), and started having touble at mile 8, made the last 5.1 a really painful run. It does add to the tanline explanations when people look at my legs in the summer time and my lft leg has a long white spot on it.

If you are going to wear them to race in, put them on before the swim.

I wore Zoot compression sleeves all day at Canada. I worked change tent at IMFL T1 and T2 last year and folks were fighting with compression socks and sleeves getting them on. Big time saver to have them on all day and they dry out quickly.

I bought the 2XU and senssena (sp) and wore them only on my right calf after I had torn my calf (stage 2). I thought they worked great. I still wear it on the calf every once in a while.

I agree put them on before swim... they do dry out quickly

I don't have anything scientific to add....

but I do use them and I do think they can be beneficial.  I don't wear them all the time, but whenever my calves start to feel a little beat up from all the training I wear them on long rides and runs and I definitely feel like they add some support.   They also seem to improve the spasms I was getting in my calves when I first starting doing bike/run bricks with quick transitions.  Now I don't seem to have that problem but adding the compression sleeves during those early bricks helped alleviate some of that discomfort for me.  Perhaps its just a mental thing, but when my calves feel beat up they definitely help me keep going.  Definitely worth a try I say.

i have both the 2XU and Zensa brands and i love them...  i wear them for both training and recovery...  not always, but often...   i find the zensa to be a bit warmer - so i generally wear them when its cooler out...  the 2XUs i have seem to dry out faster and keep their shape better...  my zensas have stretched a bit - better after you wash and dry them though...

i've never tried them swimming but dont forsee having any issues swimming with the 2XUs under a wetsuit...

my 2XUs i actually picked up at this year's boston marathon expo and wore them for the first time during the race (so much for not trying anything new on race day)...  i thought that they did a nice job of helping to stabilize the calves with all of the downhill running...

+1 After several years of calf issues, I wear the Zenzahs from time to time, whenever my lower legs start giving me the business, and they seem to help.

Another positive experience here.  I'm recovering from left calf issues and wearing the compression sleeve on that leg definitely seems to help.  Could be mental, but so far, so good.

I wore my ZOOT sleeves for allof IMAZ, They are very comfy and feel good, doubt they do much beyond that, though.

I wear the Zoot's for active and recovery.  More active use if one of my calf's hurt for some reason (keep them warm on the bike)

I have both Zoot and 2XU.  They are great.  For both training and racing.

PennState - 2010-07-01 3:26 PM I hope they can help my calf issues a bit. So ride and run with them in training?

I would wear them training to see how they feel..you will get a funky looking tan lines.

I have both Zoot and 2XU, Zoot I like much better when I wear them a long time.

For sure, you'll like them, and you can wear them under your wet suit for the IMLP, so no need to fuss with them in Transition.

Thats my plan for IMLP...wear them from start to finish. I have worn them EVERY ride and run since i bought them....love them! Wore them under my wetsuit last week as a "trial" My wetsuit FLEW off my calves...easiest it has ever been. Dry quick as well. I have 2XU
