Subject: is a cyclocross bike a good idea?

I am starting out in tris and I want to buy a bike. I am thinking of getting a cyclocross bike. I like the idea of the off road tri but I also love the idea of speeding down the road. When I am worthy I will buy a good TRI specific bike and a good mountaing bike. For now though, do you think a cyclocross bike is a good idea or should I pick a road/Tri bike?

I have a CycloCross bike (in addition to a MTB, Road, and a P3 on the way) and I love it! I've gotten some excellent on and off-road training rides in on it and, if you put some slick tires on it, I think it would be a fine bike for your first Tris--better than pedaling a MTB for sure.

But, that is my .02 and hopefully others will weigh in.

Thanks for th input. I figured I would get different tires for different rides. I am 6' 2" and 190 lbs (and gaining) should I look to get special rims to handle my weight?
