Vivacity - 2011-09-12 11:45 PM I wish I had a bike and a little training time under my belt to run this with you guys...I'm sure I could make it and like crawl across the finish line..lol..guess I will just have to race with you guys next season.

We'd love to have you come down to help out and share in the experience as a volunteer!

JCP71 - 2011-09-09 8:35 PM I am a triathlon newbie and have been training for a few months for this event.  I have to be honest the open water swim has me worried!! The swim is my weak point! Still undecided at this point.

do it!!!! this pond is very shallow and the swim distance is short....a very newbie/family/spectator friendly race

Thanks for the info! I am nervous I will do terrible, I watched the CajunMan and wow...there are some athletes in this area!!

What race would you recommend for a newbie? Also would you advise joining a tri-club or is that for the veteran racers? Thanks!

If you are nervous about open water swimming then the UL triathlon may be up your alley.  Go to www.lafayettefitness.org.  Scroll down the left side and check out the calendar of events.  It's scheduled for Oct. 30th this year.

X2 on the UL Tri recommendation. Very well organized and run. There are several other pool swim races in the area (City Club. Miles Perret, Yam City) but only UL is left this season.

Tri-Cajuns is open to all interested parties regardless of experience. We do open water swim practices which are invaluable to our members, expecially to those with no open water experience.

Again, we could certainly use help with Sugarman and you could gain valuable insight by volunteering. Email me at [email protected] if you're interested.

Yes it was wetsuit legal last year but temps have been a lot higher this year. I would be surprised if it drops that much this year but you never know. Certainly wouldn't count on it.

Okay, ##$@#$@#%$!!!  Looks like I am 50/50 for this.  Bug bite turned bad, Dr did his magic but all depends on the follow up on Friday.  Riding should be okay and if I wrap my calf I should be okay on the swim.  Running is the question.  If I can't race I may try to come out and volunteer.

Well, have fun folks but I am out.  Leg is better, Dr took out the packing but can't swim for a couple of days and Dr wasn't thrilled with me running on Sunday.  Biking is okay on Monday.

Bear, thanks I did reply to the email this morning about mailing the stuff out.  I also PM'ed you.  I have to say that you are being very generous on this.  Most RD's wouldn't do this.  I will be there next year!

Bear, a friend of mine did the race this morning and said it was top notch! He said the food waS great and the tech t was even better than any he had received in many local races. Congrats on putting together another great race. I know you are always asking questions on here to make your races better so you are doing it right!

Looking forward to this in Oct but I have a question: I am assuming there will be relay teams and is there an age limit?  I would really like to do this as a relay with my son who is 14.

14 is fine. We've had participants that age do the entire race.
