Swim
Comments: This was by far my best OW swim. I only did the breast stroke 1x to navigate. I have been practicing navigation while doing my normal breathing. I only veered off course 1x, it was on the way back and I actually crossed through the propane tanks and into the oncoming swimmers, oops! There was a dad with his two sons (ages 9 and 11?) in front of me and he was great. He 'coached' them the whole time and I ended up swimming in with the dad saying, "work on that pull, make it count". Very motivational! Transition 1
Comments: Transitions were NOT counted. All times include transitions. What would you do differently?: T1 was very smooth. Kids saw me in and out. Bike
Comments: Started out very fast (for me) was averaging 20/21mph. I tried to pass a cute guy and we ended up chatting for the 1t 1/4 of the ride. He confessed that I was making him go faster than he had wanted to go! hee-hee! I said, yea, me too! He is training for Atomic Man 1/2 IM in Sept. I had a good ride, my avg pace was faster than 17.9 but that included transitions. Transition 2
Comments: I PUT MY SOCKS ON THIS TIME!! After the bloody feet from Memphis I figured the extra time for socks was well worth it. Kids saw me in and out. Run
Comments: I felt like I was going SO SLOW!! BUT ended up with a great pace for me! I was very pleased with sub 9 minute miles. Post race
Warm down: Kids were waiting right up from the finish line for me! that was great! I got two pizzas from the food tent for the kids and hooked them up with cookies. I drank a bottle of water and had a couple of cookies. Event comments: This was charity race for Big Brothers and Sisters, so I can't complain about any lack of organization. :) We had fun and spent the day at the Point Mallard water park. Kids were great and it was time and $$ well spent. Last updated: 2005-06-30 12:00 AM

The kids and I woke up in the hotel about 10 miles from the race site. They were great and real troopers! I ate a Cliff bar, 1/2 cup of coffee and a drank a bottle of Powerade. We checked out of the hotel and made it to the race around 6a.m. for a 7:00 start. We took my bike to the transition area and then off to body marking and chip pick up.
No real warm up for me, ha! The kids and I wandered down to the beach area and waited for the race to start. We were given race #s by our entered swim times, but there was absolutely no organization going on here. I'm a project manager for a software company, and a single mom with 3 kids. This was freaking me out! What's up with this? Everyone just sort of got in line, NOT NUMERICALlY! Once I figured this out, I got with the program...people were already swimming and I decided to go to the little girls room one more time and then found a good spot to get in line. I made sure the kids saw me start.
