75th I could sort of understand given the condition of the shoulder and the proximity to traffic, but there was no excuse on West St since it was closed down. I saw one person happily tooling along at probably 10mph right in the middle of the left lane. Was nuts. Otherwise I thought the course was good.

at the last tri I was at there were motorcycles riding up and down the course looking to hand out violations for this. I saw none of this at Naperville.

I'm also quite peaved there were no officials watching over the transition area. The rules they gave us clearly stated ones bike and gear had to stay within their own space. My wifes, brand new carbon fiber bike got a nice big chip in the frame because her transition neighbor threw her bike into my wifes space and banged up against her bike.

Well I shaved a little more than 13 minutes off of my time from last year.  Came in at 1:24:29 this year (vs 1:37:xx) last year.

I was happy with my result for sure, but a side stitch the first mile of the run slowed me down a little bit.  I also noticed that the swim time was longer for me by about a minute.  The middle buoy being moved closer to the shore would explain it.

I was also a little slow in T1 this year.  I used my bike shoes (vs my tri shoes that just have velcro) and was fiddling with getting my damn ratchet strap on for almost 30 seconds.  I also had to run through transition with my bike shoes on vs having them already clipped to my bike last year.  Oh well.  Once on my bike, though, I was flying.

Short summary:

Swim 9:24 (2:09 pace)
T1 3:38
Bike 38:38 (21.2mph)
T2 1:40
Run 31:10 (10:04 pace)

Overall 1:24:29

My swim time was only 24 seconds off of last year. Which means that the course was only maybe 25 yards off because I should of been at least the same if not faster, with all the swim training I have been putting in and the way my swim times have been this season.

I did see a race official in transition... He was just watching all the runners exit out of the transition though instead of walking around. Sorry to hear about that carbon bike.

Usually by about Wednesday or Thursday after the race, judging from past experience with Brightroom.

richardgavel - 2010-08-08 7:35 PM Does anyone who did the race last year think something was different during the swim today? I ended up a minute slower and in looking at the results, it looks like a lot of people did. Top swim times last year were about 40-50 sec faster. I didn't think anything was unique this year vs last. Maybe someone else noticed something?

I am glad you said something.  My swim time was 45 seconds slower than last year and I was feeling a little disappointed with that result.  I just thought it was because I made an effort not to go out too fast and drain my energy on the swim.  Maybe there was something else to it.

I thought the race was awesome this year.  It helped that the weather was so nice.  Even though I swam slower than last year, I shaved almost 9 minutes off my overall time!  I was really excited about it.

I read somewhere on here that the buoy at the bottom of the 'M' was moved closer to the beach? Anyone know if that's true? And if so, when & why was it moved?  Could just be a rumour as I didn't see anything - but would be interested to know.

expensive and their pictures kinda suck! They got none of me coming out of the water, none of me on the run, and none of me at the finish. The only bike pics they got of me was going around one of the turns. Like the guy was too lazy to get off is bucket and take a picture somewhere else!

That's exactly what I thought too - really disappointed. Lots going round bends on the bike, but nothing else. I at least wanted one of me crossing the finish line for my first race...

Tell you what...you can have one of the three finish line photos they took of me (why they took 3 I have no idea) if I can have one of your bikes or swims...because I didnt get any of those and all I really wanted was a bike photo so I could see my form. Haha.

i will say that this is a perfect event for new comers to the sport. the bike portion was ridiculous. way to many people riding on the left and blocking riders. i wont be doing this event again

I agree 100%, but I'll do it again because my family likes to see me tri and this is perfect for them to come out to. However, I will not be bringing my P4 to this race next year since my wife's Kuota got damged. I'll take my beater bike and maybe purchase my wife a beater as well.

Search thru the lost and found section. I found my swim exit photo there... they got me at the finish line at every single angle, but only one bike shot. And nothing in aero.

If you know about what time the clock said when you finished... you should be able to scan the thumbnails and find yourself.

Good Luck!

Just spent my lunch break trawling through the Lost & Found... and found my swim and run pics.
The clock made it easier for finding the finish, but searching thru the swim got a bit boring after a while!!
