Subject: flat kit part 2...
Noticed people saying they bring a patch kit for tires.  I planned on bringing 2 co2's/2tubes/2 levers and have an extra tire at SN.

Should I add a patch kit to my bag?  I'm running out of room!

What does the bike maintenance truck do?  Lake Placid says they have a bike help trucj driving the course.

Also, is the patch kit easy to use...never used one b/f.  Sorry...bugging out with 16 days to my first IMLP!

Thanks!
Kevin

2 CO2 & 2 tubes should be good.  The support truck is to offer help for any bike mechanicals.  But it (maybe a few of them) is roaming a 56 mile bike course and it could be a LONG time before it sees you, so you don't want to have to use it.

An extra tire in S/N is overkill in my view.  If you need a spare tire, what are the odds that you will be near S/N on your first lap when you do?

Did you mean extra tube at special needs? That and another couple CO2's are all I plan on having in my SN bag for tire stuff. I keep tire boots in my wedge bag and that'll keep my tire worthwhile for the whole race even if it's sliced open.

I always have 2X: co2, tube, leaver. + have $10 and a tire boot. Train how you want to race. My tire boot is the size of a business card, if that fails you can use money, gel pack, cardboard to get you through.

Don't forget a valve extender in there ... always easier to find/beg/borrow a tube out there ... in the moddle of nowhere ... than it is to find an 80mm-stem tube. Just in case.... it's worth the two grams.
