Total Time = 1h 51m 46s
Overall Rank = 491/736
Age Group = Female 40-44
Age Group Rank = 28/50
Pre-race routine:

My husband raced too so we got up and went with another friend to the site. I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on the way, and coffee, of course. Had a gel at about 8:45, and my wave went off about 9:20.
Event warmup:

Walking around, and stretching.1
Swim
  • 17m 54s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was really surprised (and very happy) that my swim time actually went down. I have only swam once since April, and not in my new wetsuit or in open water. So I expected the swim to go poorly. All of the Master's workouts must have paid off in some technical improvements, since it certainly wasn't due to swimming fitness!
What would you do differently?:

Train more-duh.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Easier with the new wetsuit.
Bike
  • 58m 35s
  • 16.2 miles
  • 16.59 mile/hr
Comments:

I was surprised that I did as well on the bike as I did, considering I've ridden outdoors once since last fall. I pushed pretty hard after the first few miles- maybe too hard for the run... Had a gel towards the end.
What would you do differently?:

Train more
Transition 2
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Need to get stretchy laces for running shoes.
Run
  • 31m 26s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 09m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

This was where I definately saw my lack of training. I was almost a minute per mile slower than last year. It's funny since I've done more running than anything, but I think the training done for a half marathon is definately different (not to mention the fact that I didn't train as much after it was done).
What would you do differently?:

Train more. Maybe eat another gel on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Ice cream!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training.

Event comments:

All in all this went better than I was expecting given how stressed I have been and how little training I've gotten in. I had fun, and it helped me to remember why I enjoy this sport :).

Well, having 2 of 3 legs go better than expected is pretty good, especially the ones you had not trained much!

WittyCityGirl - 2010-07-11 5:59 PM Nice job with the race!!! I couldn't pick you out when I was working the water station.  Were you able to recognize me?

Thanks! I think I did- Broome County top, curly hair?  You looked a little different than your photo, and when I came back through you were distracted so I didn't get a chance to say hi.  Maybe next year!!
