Pre-race routine:

Stayed @ beach. Up @ 04:50. Ate bananna & powerbar. Drove to race sipping on Diet Mtn Dew and G'Ade.
Event warmup:

3 mile ride, 2 mile run, 5' swim
Swim
  • 10m 5s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

Decent swim for me. I swam straight and didn't drown.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on technique.
Transition 1
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

7th fastest in AG.
What would you do differently?:

Practice moving through transition a little quicker
Bike
  • 32m 44s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 23.46 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall a good ride. The roads were wet and several people wiped out. I was a little less agressive in the corners and my time was about 30 seconds or so off my bike time a couple of weeks ago. I knew when I passed my buddy Bobby I was either in 1st or 2nd in AG. I slightly eased off the push to try to see if it would make a difference in my run. My run was 30 seconds or so faster, but my bike was 30 seconds or so slower...a wash.
What would you do differently?:

Keep the intensity up on the bike and start picking up my training mileage.
Transition 2
  • 00m 32s
Comments:

Rode bike all the way to dismount line. Jumped off and ran into transition. Fastest in AG.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Run
  • 22m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I was passed by the guy who ended up winning AG shortly before 1 mile mark. I stayed w/ him through mile 2, but he put in a big surge shortly after the 2 mile marker. I wasn't able to hold his pace and got dropped.
What would you do differently?:

Increase mileage, intervals, etc...
Post race
Warm down:

Sat in the pond, drank some G'ade, ate some watermelon, then ran about 2 miles w/ a couple of friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my swim and run.

Event comments:

First time I've ever placed in a triathlon. Super stoked!!
