Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5- had a bagel with PB. Got to the race later than I wanted because we were with a group. I felt rushed and forgot my license, but they gave me my packet thankfully! Set up transition and while I was waited to pee, it started pouring. Luckily, I had already covered my gear with a trash bag. Got my wetsuit on while wet (super fun) and headed to the TT start.
Event warmup:

No warm-up. Not enough time and I wasn't happy about it.
Swim
  • 09m 29s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not happy at all with my swim. I'm not a fan of this TT start. I was in front of a large group of men in the 35-44 AG. I was smacked around a ton, my goggles wouldn't stay on my face and I couldn't get a rhythm. I eventually breathed every two strokes and just got through it.
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

Had wetsuit strippers which was fun and made life easy. Transition was long (distance wise) and I debated about bringing my sunglasses so that took a chunk of time. Otherwise, I had set everything out correctly this time.
What would you do differently?:

I would have brought my yellow lenses, but forgot them at home. Also, I need to stop second guessing my choices and just go.

Comments:

This was my fastest bike split ever!!! I'm really proud of riding my fastest split and doing it in the rain. I was a bit worried after I came up on a crash, but kept on being smart about tapping my breaks and being attentive to the road conditions.
What would you do differently?:

Be better at a long sustained hill- that will come with practice though :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

I could get better, but this is an easy transition with my Zoots now.
What would you do differently?:

I would have my food out. I decided to grab some clif bloks at the last second which added to my time, but in the end, helped my run immensely.

Comments:

Super happy with this run. Had to pull back once or twice because of a small developing cramp, but was able to head it off. Pace felt really good. I probably had it in me to go faster, but some asthma kept me from really pushing. Need to get to a doc. I did catch up with a teammate who started about 44 places in front of me, but she had a little more left and beat me to the line.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Massage, food, stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Asthma and crappy swim.

Event comments:

Great race. I might do Lord of the Flies next year- a TT, International, and then the sprint on Sunday.
