Is anyone going bring their own Hammer “endurlite” or similar products?  If so do you just drink it on the bike or bike and Run??  I’m sure it’s depends on the person but just curious what some of you are planning on for nutrition for this race.  It’s my first Half and I’m kind of up in the air because a few of my buddies tell me they just use what is provided on the course but I have not trained with Power bar products which I think is what they provide????

I am bringing my own nutrition also. Lemon lime and orange don't do it for me. I will have food on the bike and carry gels and have a fuel belt on the run. Not knowing exactly what they will have on the course and what flavors makes it impossible for me to rely on the course. Also, since I will be so slow, I don't want to have to worry about them running out of gels or whatever.

triOK - 2010-07-27 11:22 AM I'm volunteering as a body marker so if some weird chick asks you to take off your pants, please don't punch her in the face. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't turn violent if someone like you asked that of me, I would however ask if you'd like to go out after the race though ;-)

Thanks for the responses.  I kind of figured that’s what most of you would say.  No rut gut for me on the course I’m brining my own stuff.

I'll have my own bottles on the bike (until I need to get a refill, but will probably just take water) and my own gel/bloks/beans for the whole thing. I don't like hand bottles or fuel belts, and I don't like to wear my camelbak when racing, so I'll take liquids from the aid stations on the course. The plan is to stick with water unless something crazy happens since gatorade tends to give me side stitches. I've only done one other half, but I had Gu2O (I think it's Gu Brew now) in my bike bottles and a couple of packages of shot bloks on the bike. For the run, I switched to sport beans and water. The only change I'm planning to make for this one is to add endurolytes. I expect it to be MUCH hotter than Harvest Moon was, so I'm a little worried about electrolytes.

For HIMs I bring my own nutrition on the bike (Perpetuem, shot bloks and sport beans with maybe a gel 15' or so before the end of the bike) and only live off the course for water.  For the run I'll bring a couple of gels but that's it and usually alternate gatorade at one aid station, water at the next.

Not a big fan of sugar water (gatorade) but I'm not chugging bottles of it on the run either, a small cup every other mile works fine for me and if I don't feel like it or if my stomach goes wonky I just pick up a water instead, but I also don't like running with fuel belts, camelbacks, etc.

I'll be bringing my own stuff too. I'm planning on having water in my aero bottle, one bottle with nuun in it, and a bottle with a 1:3 gatorade/water mix. I'll use the course for more water, because if it's super hot, 3 bottles will not be enough liquids for me. For solids, I like fig newtons, shot bloks, and a cut up clif bar into small pieces. I put it all in my bento box and just eat from it throughout the bike.
For the run, I'll be carrying my Nathan handheld with nuun in it. I'll use the aid stations for gatorade/water as needed. I'll also have some margarita clif shot bloks with me b/c of the heat and maybe a gu.
I'll be praying to Mother Nature to give us a race day with lower temps!!!

Ok, I'm way confused. The swim waves list has W30-34 starting at 7:10 (with powder blue cap), but the bib numbers list has me at 7:25 in a green cap. So, which is it? I'd much rather be in the 7:10 wave, considering I'll probably be the last person out there if I start in the last wave. Undecided

ETA: Not that a 15 minute start is probably going to change my odds of being the last person out there much...Wink

It looks like they got your age right but put you in the Mens 30-34 wave. I would e-mail them to point it out.

Oh, you won't be the last one on the course, I am pretty sure I have that spot wrapped upWink

Yeah, I looked and they have all the 30-34 women starting in wave 12, which is supposed to be 30-34 men. I'm really hoping that it IS a 7:10 start for me so at least I'm not the last one in the water... :-P

I was not the last one out there at Harvest Moon last year, but I was pretty close. It was an out and back run course, and the last 4 miles were pretty darn lonely! I can only imagine how much worse it's going to be on a loop course where most people will probably be done with at least their first loop before I even get close to the run.

Trimama - they have me at 7:25 too with a green cap. I should be in the F 30-34 wave too. Did you email them about it? Now I'm freaking out!

Lonely and WET.  Hopefully we'll have much better weather at Boulder this year compared to HM last year.

Speaking of freaking out I just realized it was two laps on the bike course, but that’s not the part that freaked me out.  I though we were doing the “Trail of Tears” aka “Old Stage Road” two times.  My mojo was sapped until I looked at the map and saw we were not going up Old Stage road. RIGHT?????!!!!!!!!!!  Please tell me I’m right.

Thank God,  I am heading up to today to swim and specifically ride the bike course prior to the race.  The first time the stars aliened for me to come up from the spring’s prior to the race.

Does the timing chip come with a strap to hold it?  I know you can buy on at REI, but if they're provided anyway I wasn't going to buy one.

Assuming they are using the same timing company as they did for the other two races, you do not need a strap

No Old Stage, although it would make it interesting if they had it twice  I'd actually enjoy it in a masochistic way, I just don't enjoy being forced to go slower on the way down.

The timing chip will have a strap, I too assume they will use the same company they have been.  I couldn't imagine them making everyone have to have their own straps, I've never seen a race that did... plus it's a hassle at the end of the race if they can't just rip the strap off and take it right there.

Looks like they took all the wave numbers and swim times off the bib number list, so I'm guessing that means the swim wave start chart is correct, and I'll be at 7:10. Phew!

FTR, I'm #1224.

I emailed them to ask about the bib numbers and wave start and the verified that I would be at 7:10 with a blue cap! Yay!
