Extreme Veteran 356 Firestone, CO | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread islandertek - 2010-08-04 12:17 PM Thanks Kathleen!! I watched the course talk. Definitely answered most of my questions. THANKS!! Do I need all of the reflectors on my bike for road safety (front handle bars and back seat post). I took the reflectors off my wheels already. How do I mount my bib number to my bike??? Do I need to purchase some expensive contraption or is that provided?? I just have a seat bag that I could possibly pin it to. Sorry for all the questions I guess I'm just a goober newb!! Ha Haaa!! Cheers!! -Nick First thing: x2 on the race belt. They are cheep and save tons of time. I could just see myself trying to pin a number on my jersey after that swim.... Next: Get a tri top or a tighter tech shirt that can fit under your wetsuit for the swim. Have you ever tried putting on a shirt when you are wet? It doesn't go on so well. Nutrition: I bring my own. You will most likely get a water bottle in your gift bag that you can use. I like to keep that one and put older bottles on the bike that I can toss at the aid stations to pick up new bottles. I use 2 frame mounted bottles and an aero drink. Just keep your nutrition the same as your training and you should be fine. PS- this was my first tri last year and I survived. I know your nervous, but just take it step by step and you should do fine. Most of all just enjoy the experience! |

Expert 1116 Thornton, CO | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread islandertek - 2010-08-04 11:37 AM I also read in this thread that there is tons of areas for water, so should I bring my own water bottles for my bike and run? I am planning on borrowing a fuel belt from a friend for the run?? Last one....should I bring my own gel packs/nutrition to the race or will there be vendors at the race providing this?? I know a lot these will be answered at check in, but wanted to prepare before then just in case!! Sorry for so many questions!! THANKS!! Cheers!! -Nick RE: nutrition, use what you use in training... nothing worse than stomach cramps or feeling like you're going to vomit from some drink or gu you took on course. I only break that rule in one situation: my race has already fallen apart for some other reason and I am in desperate need for ANYTHING that might get me through the rest of the race. At that point I'm willing to try whatever they have since my race is screwed already. RE: fuel belt... you said borrow, so I feel the need to say this. Get a run or two in before the race (I know it's in a few days) with that belt if you plan on using one. You don't want to get to mile 2 of the run and decide you hate the thing, at that point you have two options: suck it up and deal with it, or throw it off at an aid station and plan on buying your friend a new one. |

Expert 1116 Thornton, CO | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread StMaas - 2010-08-02 5:38 PM There are almost 3 dozen BTer's registered for the race or volunteering. How about a group photo before the start? Meet by the T2 bike entrance in transition 10 minutes before close, or something? That's a great idea. It'll make it easy to find everyone and finally meet some people in person on here. I'm looking forward to it. oh, and my bib number is 149. |

Member 98 Rocky Mountain High | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread That sounds Great for a group photo!! I know I haven't been on BT for a while because of Colorado spring run-off "whitewater kayaking season" , but I would love to meet some of you in person!!!I'm bib #95 in a black/brown "Team First Descents" jersey. I would love to "Test" run the fuel belt before the race but with my foot/ankle I don't want to hurt it even more...I would rather take my chances race day and fail than screw my chances of racing before I even begin!! It is great advice, but my foot/ankle is in pretty bad shape right now and I feel I need to just lay off it until race day. SUCKS pretty bad, but that's life!! When life hands you lemons...paint that sh*t gold!!! Ha Haaa!! Then just "SACK UP" and keep on going!! I may just buy a race belt and forget about the fuel belt, even though he said I can just have it since it doesn't fit him. Thanks for all the advice and encouragement!! I am nervous!!! Cheers!! -Nick Aguon |

Master 1730 Straight outta Compton | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread Somewhat off topic for all you badcats racing on Sunday... I'm volunteering on Saturday and Sunday. I'm trying to reduce my carbon footprint too- driving from Castle Rock to Boulder 2x in 2 days isn't very environmentally friendly. Anyone interested in carpooling either day? |

Extreme Veteran 340 | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread I am not racing but I have a great suggestion for your dinner, The Med. GREAT Tapas place with something for everyone, and the small plates sound like a good "light" option. Have fun and good luck in the race! |

Regular 86 | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread x2 on the Med being good. For those looking to pasta fuel and not pay $20 a dish, I really like Pasta Jay's as well. Some other places to consider Mountain Sun (burgers & beer), Zolo (spanish/grill) and Jax Fish House (seafood). I know I haven't been posting much in the past year but I'll try and make the picture. |

Veteran 371 | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread Any other ladies pick up their packets today? The pick up itself went very smoothly, but ugh - the women's shirts. The sizing is so far off. I got a medium and couldn't believe when I held it up. It almost fit my 4 year old daughter. Seriously - it was too long, otherwise she could have worn it. The poor lady in front of me got a small and it looked like doll clothes. Really bummed b/c I like the shirt, but there's absolutely no way I can ever wear it And of course no exchanges until after the race, but I don't even think I could wear the XL. Don't mean to be a downer, and I know it's not about the shirt, but still..... |

Obviously they have the same company making them for every race. |

Extreme Veteran 582 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread I'm staying up in Boulder Sat. night too! My family and I will be eating at Pasta Jay's the night before, but will probably go closer to 5-5:30ish. Have fun if you all decide to meet there! It's a great place to eat before a race, but beware...it will be busy! |

Member 220 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread Well, that stinks. I got a medium, too. There's nothing worse than paying a ton of money for a race and not getting a wearable shirt out of it. At least I'm prepared, and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised when I go to pick-up tomorrow. Ha. |

Master 1730 Straight outta Compton | Subject: RE: Boulder 70.3 Triathlon : Official Thread Just an FYI on the shirts- I was volunteering this afternoon and they had about 5,000 shirts left. If yours was too small, go and exchange it. On an even more positive note- the volunteer shirts fit great, and they're pretty cool looking too. |

Of course, assuming that they still have them by the time I get done and recovered enough to go investigate tomorrow. :-P |
