Total Time = 2h 00m 7s
Overall Rank = 44/83
Age Group = 22-45
Age Group Rank = 14/23
Pre-race routine:

Wake up ate a cliff bar drank lots of water.
Slept only 2 hours. Race day Jitters.
Event warmup:

Short jog.
Swim
  • 10h 10m
  • 500 yards
  • 2h 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

Was in heat 3, caught up to Slow swimmers of heat 2. Was kicked in ribs in beginning of swim. Mid swim thought Timing strap was falling of so slowed down to check.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure Timing chip is fastened properly, look over course before swimming
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

Transition ZONE POOR. Transition string not rack. Bikes all fell over. Transition zone and race road is separated by Gravel and sharp rocks. Very hard to run with no shoes over sharp gravel fast. Placement of rack also gave disadvantage to members that showed up slightly late (by that i mean 30 minutes early instead of hours). Bike was placed very far from entry point of bike route.

What would you do differently?:

Place bike closer to timing area. wear cycling shoes before running.
Bike
  • 1h 11m 36s
  • 16 miles
  • 13.41 mile/hr
Comments:

If the crash did not happen my placement could have been in low 20s. Possibly high 19s over all if no chain failure however stop was legitimate and even a few places would not have made too much of a difference. I am glad to know the guy is okay.

I thought course was going to be flat so ran a different cog set instead of my hill climbing cog set.
What would you do differently?:

Look at course and practice first.
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

Back to gravel. My foot was out of the shoes then I realized there is intense gravel so i hopped all the way to my rack. Threw the bike down. My race number lost a Pin so i had it mounted sideways by one pin. I tried to find it which took a long time.
What would you do differently?:

Move transition zone closer to front of rack.
Shoes fully on.
Run
  • 34m 17s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Piss Slow. Ran two days before race. Tore something in my foot. Thought it had healed about 100meters in Tore again. Was bleeding from the foot. Run jog walking. Extremely hot. No way of hydrating. Hydration centers very sparsely placed.

then cramps set in.Even with my fist in my side to alleviate cramp unable to do so.
What would you do differently?:

Not run before the race.
Post race
Warm down:

A granola bar and a short walk

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor sleep. Poor hydration or over hydration. Blind bike route. Insufficient training and nutrition.

Event comments:

Was first tri. Planning was poor but was decent for something just put together.
