It is an interesting break... Sprinters kept them in check until the first sprint, but then none of them got any points. Kind of interested to hear what happened there.

Yeah, I do not think that the break will last but it should be close. If it sticks, I bet Voeckler takes it!

Monsieur Voeckler knows I picked him today, but can he cope with the pressure?

He's riding like a mad man now, I think he might've been able to break a bit from AC from the looks of it--stupid chain--I hope he bridges it back to them...

Your thoughts:

Should AC have waited for AS when he dropped his chain?

Curious as to what you all think. I know what I think.

I truly don't know enough about cycling etiquette in races like this, so I don't know if it's proper to wait like that or take your opportunity?

I know that if I'm in a triathlon, and I'm neck and neck with my rival, and they have a mechanical, I'm not waiting for them... But tri's are greatly different than cycling, so I don't know really.

Well ... depends on whether you're old school or new school.

I think Contador is kind of an a .... ah ... ahzz ... yeah. But if it were me? Pffft. I'm zooming ahead.

Given where AS dropped his chain, I doubt Contador should have waited for him.  Slowing down on a hill like that would be really tough.  Plus, Schleck had just attacked.  I'm not a big Contador fan, but I don't think I would have done anything differently.

Yeah, my thoughts are that dropping your chain is almost always (like 99% of the time) rider error, and therefore, I would not wait. Having a flat or breaking something is usually not rider error and therefore one should wait.

Curious as to what you all thought.

I believe it would have been proper for him to wait.  Attacking an obvious rival during a mechanical or a crash is just poor sportsmanship in a Grand Tour.  During the 3rd stage, there was not a clear indication of who were the top rivals and who were not.  That is why there was never an issue with AC and AS attacking Armstrong when he flatted.  Once your true competitors have been established, it is bad etiquette to attack when they experience a mechanical or a crash.

In a triathlon, you are only racing someone for a single day.  You are not racing that person day after day to prove who is the better all-around cyclist.  If Contador wins by less than 39 seconds, the win will always be framed with an asterisk.  He wasn't the better rider over the Tour.  He was merely the luckier one.

I have mixed feelings about the mechanical incident, although Alberto missed an opportunity to show great sportsmanship he raced to win and accomplished the goal.  I must say my heart goes out to Andy and would like to see him win the whole thing now. I think Andy has a slight edge in the mountains and has two monster mountain stages to come, so anything is still possible....and if Andy needed any more motivation he has it now.

One thing to be sure I will be glued to the TV tomorrow!!
