Overall Rank = 273/
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 23/31
Pre-race routine:

Drove down on Friday and picked up registration. Checked out the course a bit. I went out to eat with friends and went to bed at 10pm
Event warmup:

Woke up at 4 and ate whole grain cherios and a bananna. Was a bit late to the race and did only a light jog and some stretching to warm up for the swim.
Swim
  • 44m 1s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

I'm not a strong swimmer so I was happy with this. I had some toe cramps in the last few hundred meters and had to rest a couple times, but for the most part it went good for me.
What would you do differently?:

Get mentally tougher. I think I could have freestyled the whole way if I could get over the mental block.
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

I should learn the rubber band trick, but I was pleased with my effort anyway. I pre-rolled my socks and that worked well for me.
What would you do differently?:

nothing at this point
Bike
  • 1h 12m 15s
  • 26 miles
  • 21.59 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a pretty strong bike for me. I was happy with it. I was a little surprised, and heard lots of people complain about the hills, but I enjoy them and was right at home. Lost a water bottle out of my Xlab wing with Gorilla cages. Not sure if I didn't put it back right or it launched. I just didn't notice till it was gone.

I did a gel at the beginning of the bike and one at the end.
Drank 40oz of Gatorade Perform
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

pretty smooth here for me.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 1h 04m 25s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

It was hot. I started cramping at mile 1. I was happy to make it through. I reverted to run/walk/massage/run. I should have finished this in 45-50 minutes easy!! Not sure why I cramp up like this. I went into the race hydrated and should have drank plenty on the bike. I do plenty of brick work outs in training too. Frustrating!!
What would you do differently?:

I need to figure out my cramp issues!
Post race
Warm down:

walk/eat/drink/Endurox R4

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Quad cramps on the run and my ability to swim

Event comments:

I will be doing this race next year. I have friends in the area and this is a great excuse to visit for a weekend. It was well run and the course was great. I definitely want to do this again.

I have to look at my results again. My swim pace says 2:47/100 but the time says 44 minutes. The volunteers said we were at 37 minutes when I got out of the water which would make sense of the 2:47 pace. I'm confused. I estimated most of the results right now. I don't have my time slip on me and don't have official results yet.

Congratulations on your first Oly! I liked the bike course, too. That sucks about the leg cramps - way to tough it out!!

Too bad on the lost water bottle!  Have heard this is really a well run event.  May target the sprint distance next year.  Thinking about the Naperville sprint, but a bit nervous about the number of participants.

Don't be nervous about the numbers. They start in waves of 4 people from what I hear. That should keep you out of the mess of a mass start. This is supposed to be one of the best Newbie friendly tri's around and it's sooooo local you'd be crazy to not do it!!!!
