The fog definitely threw me off.  I feel like I put in about 1600-1650 meters for the Olympic swim based on my inability to see buoys (and my generally mediocre sighting skills).

I had the Olympic course at 24.02 miles.  Map my ride also measures it right about 24 miles.

So is that 40 Km?

40km is 24.85 miles so it was almost a mile short.

Straight from the RDs mouth (via one of our club members LOL), the olympic was short.

Oh, and that woman I was talking about was someone who won their AG at Kona last year so evidently she didn't miss any part of the bike course.

Anyone have any idea on when the final race results would be posted?  Being my first tri I was just wondering what to expect since I have been used to running races where official results were normally posted within 24 hours.  Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the update on the distances.  A friend of mine did her first sub 3 hour oly and we are really excited for her.  Even at 24.x miles, that would still get her sub 3 hours even with the extra mile added.

Did anyone post their race to mapmyride or garmin connect?  I'd like to look at the elevations and such.  I didn't take the time to use my garmin.

I did have sighting problems in the water but I followed others and usually ended up around the buoy.  I was happy with the water support, especially with the hot bikini college women. :-)

At the back end of the bike course, the aid station guy didn't make it clear that Heed was available.  He kept asking "water?" and I said yes, then he gave me a water bottle with the cap still on it and I couldn't get it off.  He did that on both loops.  I just about broke my teeth trying to get that thing off.  The aid station near the transition, had the caps off already.

The volunteers were generally wonderful, you can't do much better than they did.

No idea.  I assume they will be posted on HFP's website before the race website.  I have been checking frequently and they are not there yet.  I will be surprised if they are not there by the end of the day.  Remember, it isn't 24 hrs since the last competitor finished the HIM yet.

Funny. I had the sprint at 11.36 or something like that.  Was shocked at how little in water support they had. I have always seen way more kayaks than that in case someone needs help.  Great course.  Need to work on keeping spectators off course (running in particular).  A few times when I was done people had to be yelled at by people running (Olympic/Half) or other racers telling them to watch out.  All in all a good race.  Post race food would have been nice (other than just snacks)

I only saw one kayak in the sprint section of the course.  I couldn't see from buoy to buoy so I had no idea if I was traveling in a straight line or not.  I tend to be the lone swimmer who is between the fast people and the slow people so at times, I couldn't see anyone else in the water due to the fog.  I didn't notice a lot of people  being told to get off the trail.  The post-race food was pathetic but at least they had chips (my weakness).

Oh, I hear you on that achievement.  My one and only Olympic was Columbia in MD and I went 2:59:59.  Phew - just snuck in there!  I was so excited about it and don't want to do another Olympic in case I go slower LOL

There were no hills on the sprint so anything from us would be worthless!

Argh, how annoying!  Someone wasn't trained properly!  But it must be difficult to get all of the volunteers up to speed, especially if they don't show for training/pre-race meetings.

I always talk to the volunteers (and the police and other competitors).  I am one of those annoying people.

And Diet Coke, my weakness. :-)  Later in the day they set out some pizza that was left over from the volunteers, that was wonderful.  In general I think they cut back on expenses this year.  No bibs, no different colored caps, no money for pros, little food.  The expo was also pretty tiny, but that is probably a factor of how many are registered.  I did notice the local newspaper was touting the wonderful expo where even the local public can have the chance to buy the same pro triathlon gear that the super triathletes will be sporting the next day.

Great job on your sub 3 at Columbia! Columbia's pretty tough.  The friend I am talking about, did like 3:25 at Columbia (3:40 the year before), and near 2:56 at Morgantown which really threw us off. :-)

I do that too, but it's good, keep doing that.  As a volunteer, you like to know that what you are doing is even being noticed.  It's surprising how few athletes even make one move when a volunteer does something or cheers them on.

Thanks.  I still consider it to be my best race ever, even though I have plenty of AG awards from the local sprints.  One of my friends PRd the Oly yesterday by 10 minutes.  She was stoked.  I hate PRing and then finding out the course was short.  They should have to be certified if they are USAT sanctioned races.  But of course your friend should still be proud!

So, the lady who won the half, got DQ'd.  Evidently she accidentally followed an Olympic cyclist and missed as section of the half course.

Oh no! That little extra bit up in Masontown? That's awful. I wonder if she missed a sign painted on the street or if it was a volunteer failure or what. Too bad.

It is kind of sad, and I wondered if that would be an issue.  I wonder if anyone else missed it.  I can see how a pro (or otherwise fast person) might take this race in stride and not care about the course in advance, but otherwise, it was pretty clear and easy to remember how the course was laid out, and I was worried about that spot but I thought it was pretty obvious.  It seems like they should've had mats at the turnarounds especially when you consider that everyone out there are doing different distances.  But then again, there was no money for winners so you could say why is it needed.

I think good signage is part of a quality race, prize money or not. I thought the markings were good, except for coming back in on the bike... I was about to get on the bridge and this volunteer or worker got off his walkie at the last second to point to the turn around and yell "half marathon (sic) that way.... olympic straight." It was so last second that when he pointed and started yelling, I slammed on the brakes to turn, even though I knew I was headed into the transition area across the bridge. I don't think there was a sign there, just that guy. All and all though, I thought logistically it was a good race. I thought the atmosphere, food and prizes were pretty lackluster, but on actual execution, I give them high marks.

It really is too bad as her time indicates she was really crushing the course...
