The article in Triathlete was pretty interesting. Was wondering if anyone uses one. I'm a total gadget girl, so.....

I don't have one on the bike, but my computrainer has one. It's pretty interesting to watch the wattage levels. They're still a bit pricey and involved a bit of complication to install, maybe in a year or two. Would be nice if Shimano came out with one where the strain gauge could automatically be part of their bottom bracket, and all you had to do was buy the meter itself.

I do. I have the Polar Power meter, however it isn't as accurate as other brands, is a good choice if you already own the 625x Polar HR (as I did). It has its pros and cons but I only use it for training so it is fulfilling my current needs. Eventually I’ll try to get a better one.

Anyway, within 2 months I had increased my pedal efficiency and speed considerably while keeping the same effort level.

I don't remember the details but I either read or heard on TV that someone has a bottom bracket with some kind of fancy optical sensor built in that functions as a power meter...sorry I can't remember more details.  I love gadgets and anything that will give me hard data on my training/racing so I'd like to get a power meter but they are a bit expensive right now.  I'd rather put that $300 towards aset of Zipps or a disc wheel.

its a power tap, its a sensor that is a hub for your rear wheel. It sends all the info from that to a computer. they also make an SRM whitch is the same deal exept the sensor is localed in a pair of cranks you have to but.

I'm talking about a new product which is just the bottom bracket...compatible with regular cranks.

Max, do you like the computrainer?  I've just been reading about it and am thinking about getting one this winter.

Don, it's a nifty trainer, and if you can justify spending the $$$ then get one. But the conparisons of it to actual road riding are pretty far fetched. I've plugged in some typical local road courses and riding the computrainer is always harder than riding the actual road. Of course you don't get to freewheel on the downhills, but it does provide a lot of feedback. The only down side so far has been the issue of the heart rate monitor pickup which CT has been having trouble with. Seems there are some conflicts with their electronics and that of Polar. I do wish they'd hurry up and resolve these problems. If you think you're going to do a LOT of indoor training this winter, then the CT might be worth it, though a good quality fluid trainer will do nearly all of the same, just without the bells and whistles of the computer hook-up. And to be honest, I find I tend to ride mine while just watching old Tour de France videos on TV instead of the boring screen of the cyber riding partner!

I must have one of these things. I am so obsessed with numbers on the bike.
