Just seeing who is in this year and who has done it in the past.   I did 8 of the 12 miles of the Sprint Bike this week and it is sure hilly!

The other question is that BT doesn't have this as a race event.  Not sure why...

First post w/ this group so...Hi you all!   I just moved to Dayton and have picked out the Hueston Woods as my first triathlon in the area...and first triathlon.  Been riding, biking, swimming for years and decided that NOW is the time to actually enter a race.  Unsure about whether to do the sprint or olympic distance....

Welcome! I'm sure you'll do great.
There will be people of all ability levels in both races, so I would do what fits best with your training and your schedule for the weekend.
HFP is a great race company and things will be organized and fun, but low-cost.

I'm looking forward to the race.  This will be my first Tri.  I drove up to the park and checked out the course a couple of weeks ago.  My goal is not to drown on the swim, crash my 14 yr old MTB, or trip while running.  Despite not logging many of my training sessions, I actually have been training since June for this event.  I feel pretty comfortable that I can finish.

I'd love to hear any thoughts from people who have done this race before.

This will be my first Tri also.  I started training in late May and everything is going well and I am having a blast.  My girlfriend and I went up so I could ride the bike leg about three weeks ago.  Its a pretty good size hill out of transition.  The map was a little misleading and I missed a turn so I only actually rode 1/3rd of the leg.  We did drive it though and it looks pretty hilly.

We rented a cabin the night before so it will be nice being able to get up and be so close.

Good luck to you!

Glad to hear that others are doing this for the first time as well. I will be doing the sprint distance as it will be my first tri in 20 years. At 15 I had no problem, my goal at 35 is to finish, not drown and get back into the tri scene for sure.  Have enjoyed training, wish I would have started earlier.  Actually rode my bike into work today (7.5 miles) for a little bonus.

Anyone know how hilly this course is compared to East Fork? Just need some mental preparation if it's close.

Just saw this forum and just signed up for the Tri as well!!! My first tri was going to be Sept 18 at lake lemon in unionville IN.  I have been training really hard for that race and have my miles up pretty high for everything.  If feel pretty confident so I decided I am going to do this race.  It will be nice to learn a few things as well.  I am looking forward to the race next weekend.  Anyone know if you are required to wear a shirt??

How about planning a meet up before the race, after we all get checked up and set up?  I haven't been up there yet.  Anyone got any ideas for where/when?  We'll also need to figure out how to recognize each other.

This is my first time at Hueston Woods, 2nd season of tris.  I'll be doing the sprint course.

hill just out of transistion, hmmm... that does sound reminiscent of East Fork.  I didn't like that.  That's where I found out that a derailleur cable was shot and I had to ride most of the race in the wrong gear...

I am a weak cyclist.  When I went to practice I felt like I needed to stand to make it up the hill.  If I would of stayed in the saddle I feel like I would have had to stop and walk.

Hey, would you happen to have a link or more info on the September triathlon at Hueston Woods. I have a scheduling conflict and will not be able to participate in the HFP event at Hueston Woods.

So I upgraded my bike shoes last week and I am trying to break a habit of keeping things that I will never need again.  Therefore I have a nice set of Shimano PD-M324's??? and shoes to go with it. One side is a traditional flat platform, rideable with an ordinary noncleated shoe; the other has a cleat binding.  The shoes I have are Pearls.  They have laces and 1 velcro strap. Size 10.5 or 11??? (will check when I get home).

So if someone that is racing this weekend at Hueston Woods and currently does not have a clipless set up let me know and I will bring them up with me.  If you are racing this weekend and want them before - not necc a good idea trying them out few days before a race but whatever- you can pick them up from me on the westside of cincinnati or downtown.

All I ask is that you pay it (gear or anything) forward when you have a chance! (and a little push in the water would help too.)

I will not ship these anywhere or drive to dayton to meet you.

PM me if interested.

I looked.  The race website has changed from what I remember.  Looks like its "just" a road race...  http://www.truesport.com/teamcolumbus/Races/view.asp?JournalID=72

I'll be wearing a red/yellow/black Cincy Express tri shirt and shorts with a black cap.  Please introduce yourself.  My name is Cheryl.

First tri.  Did it.  Darn glad I chose the sprint distance.  Training was a disaster last few weeks due to travel.  But, feels great to have done one....finally.

Anyone know of a sprint or olympic distance race late Sept/early Oct in w/in 100 miles of Dayton?

Really enjoyed this as my first race.  My run was much better than I thought 8:30 pace.   A little disappointed how shallow the swim was.  I'm swimming and have guys walking in 3 feet water next to me.  The distance had to be short too.  Finished in 13 some odd minutes.    Anyways almost broke the 1:30 mark.  Hope everyone else had a great race.

Congratulations today!!

I was there too but, unfortunately, bailed after the swim.  In order to make it up to myself I am going to do this one in 4 weeks....

Hills about killed me.  First big hill on the bike ride, wasn't on my small ring and thought I could make it up.  That smoked me for the whole bike.  And then that hill on the start of the run was a monster....
