Overall Rank = 221/510
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 22/33
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:15. Ate cheese pizza. Drank water and gatorade.
Arrived at transition about 5:30
Event warmup:

Stretched
Swim
  • 08m 47s
  • 350 meters
  • 02m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

Don't know what the deal was. Felt pretty good but swam 30 seconds slower than last year. I'm getting what the deal is with my swimming ... I feel like I'm on a yoyo.
What would you do differently?:

Beats me
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Did pretty good with this. Had the 8th best time in my age group ... of course that doesn't count for much in the overall scheme of things.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing ... went well.
Bike
  • 38m 5s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.91 mile/hr
Comments:

PR ... best time ever. Felt really good about how it went. Did have some muscle tightness in my right thigh, though.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Once again my transitions are my strong suit ... 5th in my age group. Maybe I could enter a transition competition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 30m 58s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Way faster than last year. Not my fastest time this year, but not bad since I run mostly on flats. Again my right thigh was tight for some reason. Had to walk twice to let it rest.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster?
Post race
Warm down:

drank water / walked around / took pictures / ate breakfast

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Don't know in the pool.
My thigh gave me problems on the bike and run.

Event comments:

The timing chips were a pain. Felt like I wearing one of those things that calls the police if you leave house arrest. Rubbed a raw spot on my ankle. First time I've ever had that happen.

Good job out there. I have to say I laughed at cheese pizza for breakfast. That's right up my alley!

I agree with you on the timing chips -- too bad it looks like they are here to stay.

Great RR Brian, and congrats on your PR on the bike! You are a cycling machine!!!!

Your swim time is respectable, your bike great, your run is good and like you said -  you're killing the transitions. Way to go!!
