Portland, Maine
United States
YMCA
Total Time = 1h 03m 9s
Overall Rank = 79/192
Age Group = M31-40
Age Group Rank = 18/33
Pre-race routine:

Up early to meet up with my kayaker escort @ the ferry terminal for the ferry ride over to Peaks Island
Event warmup:

None, it's a 2.4 mile swim so I figured I'd warm up along the way :)
Swim
  • 1h 03m 9s
  • 4000 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

I didn't hook up with my kayaker until I had crossed the 1/2 way point. There were more swimmers, more kayakers, and a wider channel than I had expected and the kayakers were WAAAAAY out there. Somehow we didn't connect and it took him awhile to locate me. I wasted several minutes during the swim looking for him or being distracted and not focusing on just swimming because I was thinking about where he was. Also my navigation was horribly dreadful. The course curves to the right, and I spent the middle part of the swim all the way to the LEFT. Didn't really think about it because I was still looking for my kayaker as I swam.
What would you do differently?:

Have kayaker closer to start line
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Have to connect sooner with kayaker. Once we met up, I was able to push harder the 2nd half of the swim

Event comments:

Already looking forward to next year.
