Swim
Comments: They changed up the swim route from last year. It was okay... got a good start up front, most people hung back near the astroturf that we crawled down to get in. Some body contact, but not bad. Had to slow down a couple of times when I caught up to the wave ahead and then the wave ahead of that. Horrible deep water ledge to get out, thankyou volunteers for helping!! I had perfect navigation today! What would you do differently?: Maybe push a little harder, try and get past the slow people a little bit better. Transition 1
Comments: AG 2/12, OA 105/431 Really long run up these ramps, back and forth from the river. Run across the street, and then way down to my bike rack. What would you do differently?: Nothing... pretty good effort. Bike
Comments: I LOVE this bike route, it is so fast!! I started passing people immediately, it seemed like they were all out there for a Sunday ride?! A few men passed me, a couple I passed back, no women in my AG passed me. I rode this fairly hard, knowing the run was going to be yuk no matter what. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Transition 2
Comments: AG 2/12, OA 124/431 I had a great bike spot, we had assigned racks. Mine were right in front of the portapotties, easy to remember where it was, and closer to the bike in/out than the run in/out. Already had race belt on, so ditched the bike helmet, changed shoes and I was outta there! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I really had to tackle this mentally... because I wanted to win! Picked a good pace, had no idea what it was because the Garmin went totally wonky. Walked 4 very short times, once through the water station (drank a little and poured the rest on my head), once on the hill going up to the first bridge... once almost to the second bridge, and last on the inclince going up the last bridge. Pushed it as hard as I could once I got up on the bridge to the finish line... No one in my AG passed me on the run and I passed a few people, SHOCKER! What would you do differently?: Keep working on run volume and speed, it's getting better, but nowhere near where I want it to be. DON'T WALK EVER! Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a bottle of ice water and went with my daugher and grandson to a shady, grassy area and cooled down. Went back for some oreos, banana and vitamin water, then one more time for a slice of pizza. Sat around a long time waiting for awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I did this race to the best of my ability... I still think I can swim faster, I was really happy with the bike though and run suckage is what it is. Event comments: Really good race!! I had a goal to come in under an hour and 30 minutes and I shattered that!! Here are the side by side comparisons from last year: ~~~~~~~2009~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~2010 Swim: 8:44 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7:50 T1: 3:02 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2:46 Bike: 37:14 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 36:40 T2: 2:08 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1:41 Run: 42:26 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 37:06 TOTAL: 1:33.36 ~~~~~~~~~~~ 1:26.05 Although I did win my AG, I received the Women's Grandmasters award! Got up at 4 a.m. and had oatmeal, banana and coffee. Headed out the door with my daughter and grandson by 4:55, had more coffee on the way.
Swam a nice paced 400 before the pre-race meeting. Ate a GU with water right before the first wave went off.
