The bottom line, though, is that I can't prove anything to you. I have test data, I have credentials, my athletes dominate races after they get off their bikes. Runners who use the techniques I teach improve their economy consistently and dramatically. They run faster and win races. Look to my website for my credentials. Look at the race results of the athletes I coach. You can buy in or not; your call. I gaurantee that you will run faster if you do.

Ken

Congrats on the optimal cadence testing - nice that it falls into the exact same range cyclist have been talking about for the last 25 years that I have been cycling (probably even before that but I'm only in my 40's). Good to know you put it to the test though.

Congrats on the 90% of all races being won by forefoot strikers. I have watched Pam Reed (my idol) run and I have watched Dean Karnazes run and have paid attention to their form. I will watch again closely as they are the runners who impress me most - if they were in your stable I would be 100% convinced already. Though it looks like Rice who started this thread is already a convert having run with his 2 year old.

Have to say I am impressed with your answer. Now I look forward to checking out your training logs to see the cycling, running and swimming in practice or will I need to login to your website to see those as well?

Ken also has some very good answers/explanations to some thorough questions here:

I coach some of the fastest runners in the sport, including a 17 year old who outran the US National Team by 26 seconds per mile last year to win Nationals, averaging 4:39 per mile off the bike. We work as hard on running technique as swimming or cycling technique.

Good luck, Ken

Being a high school running coach, I am always interested the future of running in America. Who is this athlete who ave. 4:39 miles and what was the distance?

Thanks,
Randy

The race was the 2004 USAT National Under-20 Championship. The distances were 750 m swim, 20K bike, and 5K run. Steven Duplinsky ran 14:24, 80 seconds faster than the #2 run split. Notice that the #1 and #2 timer are the same. He won by 1/2 second.

I'm totally impressed!

What can he run an open 5k in, without biking first?

WAIT JUST A MINUTE....I just looked up the results and it said he ran a 16:11 for 5K. That is not 4:39 min/mile but 5:13. That is still a good time, but if he beat the national team by 26 sec per mile than the national team stinks.

I thought this 4:39 per mile was a little fast. The US Junior 5K & 10K records were broken recently by a young runner from Oregon. He ran a 13:37.91 (4:23 per mile). He also broke the the 10K record held by Rudy Chapa in 28:15 (4:33 pace). These time were track times, not Tri times. So if another young runner was indeed running 4:39 off the bike, I would say he was in the wrong sport and should be concentrating on running first.

PS: My guess is that you had to covert from Kilometer to miles and made a little mistake. If I'm wrong, forgive me, and tell me where I made my error.

Thanks,
Randy

Sorry, I posted the wrong link. That was 2004 Canadian Nationals, not USAT Nationals. The 16:11 in Canada was with a minute and a half lead on cruise mode. At USAT Nats, he had to work for it. Try this:

I apologize for the error.

That kid is amazing! I'll have to keep an eye on him come cross country season. He should do well at Footlocker.

Thanks,
Randy

PS: I kinda thought it was just a mistake.
