Richmond, Virginia

Richmond Multisport
86F / 30C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 06m 21s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Aquabike Women
Age Group Rank = 6/8
Pre-race routine:

into bed around 10:30; had one of my better pre-race sleeps. Up at 4am, ate, dressed, on the road by 5:15 to get to the venue around 5:30. Got body marked, set up TA, pottied, headed to the swim start area (decided not to do a pre-swim warmup)
Event warmup:

none
Swim
  • 36m 57s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

Female aquabikers started with the under 39 women; the horn sounded and it was like I wasn't moving while they just took off! I felt like I was swimming OK, but I was way at the back of the pack. I kept thinking "they've gone out too fast and I'll catch up later" but it never happened. I was slow!
What would you do differently?:

I need more OWS!!!
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

T1: exit the water up a ladder onto the pier, run on a carpet across the railroad tracks, along the gravel, then off the carpet and up the stairs and around 2 city streets to TA. Crazy, but went far faster than anticipated. First time biking without socks and that worked well. 2nd best in group.
What would you do differently?:

I actually lost time trying to get my earplugs out; need to get a new pair with longer stems.
Bike
  • 1h 26m 54s
  • 25 miles
  • 17.26 mile/hr
Comments:

I've come to understand that riding on the flats is far harder than I've been giving it credit for. I don't like it. Get me onto rolling hills!

a few times my body told me "we'd like to stop now, that shady grass looks REAL good!" I didn't stop but I lost a lot of speed

I used up my drink about 1 mile before the end
What would you do differently?:

stick to races with more rolling terrain!
Post race
Warm down:

pack up, potty, go back to the hotel for a jump into the pool and a shower

What limited your ability to perform faster:

heat, ???

Event comments:

Richmond Multisport puts on a good event, but this venue is not so great.

I agree, the venue is not the greatest....but having an urban tri is kinda different too.

The heat was killer out there!

Great job with all the heat and difficulties!  I can definitely understand wanting to nap in the grass.

Nice work getting it done! I cannot imagine having to climb stairs as part of a transition....crazy!
