Subject: Be Iron fit program vs. actual race time
I was looking at the Be Iron Fit program (30 weeks to Iron Man) and trying to compare the training time and the actual race timing.

The training program max out at 6 hour bike and 3 hours run, which sounds reasonable.

When I look at some IM results and taking the buttom 250 participants that finished, the average bike time is more then 7 hours and the run time is more then 6 hours.

how does this make sense ? how can 3 hours of training translate to 6 hours of actual run ?

Thanks

I am pretty sure they do not expect you to run a 3hr marathon in training.  That, and running one after riding 112 (which again, I don't think they expect the average joe to ride that in 6rhs) is a different game than training.

Not having looked at that program, my guess is they train by time rather than distance.  Or, you were looking at the the wrong end of the results and those that did the program finished in the top 250.

It's not just IronFit ... I don't know of any IM training program that calls for more than three hours' run. Your body takes too long to recover from that kind of an effort, and it's not necessary in order to train properly for an IM marathon, provided that you do keep up with the VOLUME of recommended running.

Even in straight marathon training, you are not going to run the full 26.2 miles.  Some people can do it in 3 hours, others in 6.

The Be Iron Fit program is a time based program.  I'm using it to train for my first Ironman.

Just curious, which Be Iron Fit programs are you all referring to. I'd love to hear if anybody has actually done the "Just Finish" program or if most do the "Intermediate" or "Competitive" versions.

I am working from the Competitive plan, but I have a friend who is working on Intermediate. I think the idea is to aim high and expect to miss a workout here and there.  By no means to I intend to "Compete".

I am talking about the "competitive" plan, but I'm far from being competitive.

The plan is to start with that and if I can not stick to it (life issues) "fall down" to the other plans.
