Who's up for Loggerhead this year?  Anyone have input on the water conditions lately?  It probably changes from day to day, but hopefully it will be calm.

I'm in.
Water has been absolutely beautiful this week, almost glassy with tiny waves. I hope it will be like this for the race, but some chop would be nice for the boost a currrent would give. My swim times are not really the best.Laughing

Remind me, do they start the swim on the north and the south depending on the current?

I can't find it on their web site, but I seem to remember reading they always swim with the current and adjust the swim start area accordingly. I don't know for sure, this is my first time doing this race.
I was surprised at how quickly it sold out also.

I've done this race a couple times, always a great time.  I happened to be on the beach last year the day before the race and was talking to the team setting up the swim course.  They said that they adjust the start position to make sure that the swim is always with the current.

The water is usally pretty flat for this race. Although wind can kick up any day and get it choppy. IT is almost always with the current. They did make us go up stream the first year I raced but it was not a big deal. Great race. We do it every year.

Swam at Carlin Park yesterday and the water was warm, clear and calm, with a slight north current. Saw lots of "wrung" Lobster heads by the south buoy!! I'm looking forward to my first Tri at the Loggerhead!

Looking forward to it... This was my first tri a few years ago and come back each year.   Swim is great and as mentioned, current ussually runs north.   Bike course is as easy as it comes as long as wind cooporates witf only a couple turns.   Run course is decent and the only thing that really is on my mind for this fast course is the heat.  Clydes, 1st timers etc usually start in last waive and that is 20-30 minutes after 1st.   30 minutes is a heck of a lot hotter come run time.

Good luck everyone...

Actually, I need to correct this...I can't run anymore (knees) so my 11 year old is doing the run and I'll swim and bike. Momma is doing her own race, so we're going to see how badly we can beat
her Wink.  Loser cooks dinner! I'm looking forward to a fun time with some great people!!

Are there assigned bike rack spots for the Loggerhead or is it on a first come basis?

Thanks

There are racks assigned by numbers (ie. 200-210).  If you are the first one there you can take any spot on the rack....no individual spots.

I thought they were grouped by age group. Male 35-39. Then you just grabbed a spot on that rack. I could be wrong. Hope the water stays flat and clear.

Well, the first one is in the books and it was definitely a learning experience. After training in 84 deg. ocean water, we were greeted with very cool water yesterday morning due to a cold upwelling offshore. Still, not too bad. We were blessed with calm winds during the bike and run, so all in all, pretty decent conditions for my first race. By the way, is it not fantastic seeing the little kids competing??Cool

The cold water was a shocker, but felt great!   Couldn't have asked for better conditions IMHO.   The kids were great to see out there.  Funny thing was that one fo the young kids and I were running together the last .50 mile or so.   I had some giddie-up left to pick up to the finish line, but by then the crowd was cherrign for this kid.   I wasn't going to be "that guy" who sprints the last 100 yards and passes a 12 yr old   Compliments to the volunteers as well as the NICE COLD water at the aid stations...   That felt so good.
