Does anyone know if this race is ACTUALLY going to happen?? There had been some scuttle in our local newspaper about it- some drama with the city of Lafayette/Chamber of Commerce and the RD.. Thanks!!

Sam, not sure.  I talked to Tammy one day and she had spoken with the RD who said it was on, but she was not confident.  There has been virtually no communication on this race over the summer.

I am not registering until I know for sure it is going to be held.

Yeah, JD kind of gave off the same vibes... I'm not going to register either until I know absolutely, without a doubt, for sure, that the race is going to happen! Thanks Greg!!

Yeah, that was part of the problem, lots of people have already registered and part of the controversy was what to do with those registrations- who would be responsible for refunding the money if it came down to that.

Don't forget, he said there is a plan B. There better be a race, this was to be my season finally other than some local 5K races.

Well, that seals it for me.  I will set my sights on the Monumental Half-Marathon in November.  That I know is a well organized event.

Too bad.  It would have been cool to run our towns...

Yeah, it sealed the deal for me too. If our own police departments aren't willing to man the course for us, then I can go on a 13.1 run on my own and save the $50!
I might just have to look at the Monumental Half. I have done the Indianapolis Half several times too and it's a great race! It goes through Ft. Benjamin Harrison. It's in October.. but I'd like to do something that I haven't done..

I ran the Monumental last year and despite having a HORRIBLE experience, it is a great race. My bad experience was simply based on getting hurt at mile 10...had to hobble the last 3.1 miles...it sucked, BUT like I said it is a neat race. Not a ton of crowd support except downtown, but it is a runners race. The 500 Mini is awesome, but there is also a ton of hoopla, this race though is all runner. VERY flat. I plan on "taking my revenge" on the course later this year when I return!

Email received today:

JUST 3 MONTHS TO GO UNTIL THE
HOME OF PURDUE HALF MARATHON!
HOME OF PURDUE HALF MARATHON A GO!
First of all, we would like to thank everyone for an outpouring of your support for the inaugural Home of Purdue Half Marathon October 24, 2010.  We are particularly enthused about several Greater Lafayette Metro area communities offering to host the event.
While we still hold out hope for the Cities of Lafayette and West Lafayette, it has become clear that they plan to breach our agreement to allow us to use a course that we designed and was approved last fall.  Reinke Sports Group has done everything in a forthright, honorable manner and I am sorry to say that we have not seen the same from the other side.   Therefore we are going to take the high road at this point and make a decision on the course options in front of us.  We have some very exciting options and it will not be an easy decision.
Meanwhile, several prominent local individuals have offered to help mediate and we certainly welcome their intervention.  Having said that, we hope to announce which course will host the event this year, get back to the business of creating a fun-filled "Home of Purdue" experience for all of participants (which includes runners from some 25 states and 4 foreign countries at this time) and hope everyone can get back to what we all enjoy first and foremost - "simply running".  We will still continue our efforts to work with the cities in the future but now is the time to get back on track with this terrific event.  With over "850" registered runners (and walkers) with some 2 1/2 months to go, this should be on track to have some 1500-2000 participants.  Therefore, we urge you to join us and tell your friends what a great weekend we plan to have in "Boiler" country!
The USRA Half Marathon Series (usrahm.com), of which the Home of Purdue Half Marathon is a part of, has already had some 10,000 participants thus far this year, while over 10,000 are projected this fall in our 8 remaining 2010 events.  I am writing this from Louisville where I have been brought in as one of 30 event rights holders from around the country to meet with  over 800 representatives of Convention & Visitors Bureaus, Municipalities and Sports Commissions from around the country, to present our opportunities and all "44" of my appointment slots are filled up by communities wanting to host one of our Half Marathons.  As you can see by the projected 2011 schedule below, we anticipate being in nearly 30 cities next year (Please note Home of Purdue Half Marathon for 2012 is scheduled for October 16, 2012) and we are also about to announce a major/international Marathon for early 2012 in one of the last "top 25" markets in the country without a Marathon.  You all will be among the first to know!
We again want to thank everyone for their patience and support and we plan to make the formal announcement within the next few days once all of the details are finalized!

So is this thing on or not? I don't really want to register for it if it's not for sure but I really wanted to do this race.

Based on all the local news I have heard, I would not register for this race.  The RD is fighting with both cities and I just don't see how the outcome can be good.  Just my .02 cents, but why pay for a race that is not welcomed with open arms to the area where it is to be held?  There are plenty of marathons and 1/2 marathons in fall that are well organized with a ton of support from the local governments.

I registered for it today.  I wanted to hit the midnight deadline before the price went up another $5...  Risky, maybe, but I figured they would find a way to have it!

Not me. Now the big fight is on for the name of the event. They announced in Saturday's paper that the race will not take place in Lafayette or West Lafayette and Purdue is threatening action against using their name in the event. I signed up to go my annual Surgical Technology conference in Indy instead. Now that sounds like fun. Oh well, I need the CEU's.

At this point, I don't know if I have thrown away $50 or what???? No definitive conclusions or answers are being divulged as of yet. Active.com is still accepting registration,,,, so who knows????

The Evansville 1/2 Marathon is October 10th. The $42 registration fee deadline is the 20th of August then it goes up to $55. I'm considering that one as an alternative.

Doug, I really liked the Evansville half.  Well run, great packet(the year I did it, everything came in a plastic bucket that has lots of uses! Berry Plastics is one of the sponsors) and a nice course.  Flat!
