Subject: RE: Wife "hates camping". What do I do? I just went on a 5 day backpacking trip in Yosemite. "Going" in the woods is not something I particularly enjoy, but it's a small price to pay for spending time in "real" wilderness (as opposed to more developed campsites). However, even the backcountry in Yosemite has a lot of visitors in the summer, and in some places where a lot of people camp, it can be difficult to find a place where you're not in danger of someone walking up on you. At one point, I thought I had hiked far enough away from camp, only to have someone walk up over the ridge I was facing just as I was finishing up. Needless to say it was a bit awkward, probably more for him than for me! I LOVE camping, hiking, backpacking, fishing, and nature in general. Just like with triathlon, some people have that internal desire and some don't. For those who don't, I can't imagine it would be any easier to change their opinion than it would be to change mine. |
