Pre-race routine:

Stayed over night in Ithaca. I know, I don't live that far away, I just hate rushing in the morning. As it was, I way over slept and was rushed. Packet pick up the day before, body marking the day of. Ate a muffin and 1/2 and some coffee and water for breakfast!
Event warmup:

Not too much time to warm up. Had a flat before the race started, so DH changed the tire while I stressed. Got to do a couple min swim before the race started.
Swim
  • 51m 44s
  • 1500 meters
  • 03m 27s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim seemed like it lasted forever. I wasn't feeling when I got in the water. I was stressed about my bike, very nervous about doing a longer distance and I really thought I was going to throw up. Once I got out in to the water, things really calmed down. CLT has a very easy to follow course, but the current kept pushing me away from the bouys, so I felt like I was fighting to stay next to the bouy line the whole way out. I think I did pretty good with my breathing. I did fight with foot cramps most of the way, I am just glad they stayed in the feet and didn't go to the calves or hammies!
What would you do differently?:

I just need to work on my swimming. My pull could be stronger as well as my kick.

  • 12.25 mile/hr
Comments:

I was feeling really good coming out of the park. I was following Bob's advice and take it easy on the climb out of the park so I could really bring it home for the rest of the bike. Then at mile 6ish, I got another flat tire. As I stood there looking at my bike, a very wonderful tri peep gave me her tube, then after trying to get it changed and almost done, the race truck came along and finished fixing it for me...yay! 20 minutes later I was on my way. Finished up the bike pretty good. Ate about 7 Fig Newtons on the ride. Was more comfy in the saddle than I have been.
What would you do differently?:

Not get a flat!! Ride more!
Transition 2
  • 03m 14s
Comments:

Just took my time putting my shoes and socks on. At this point, I wasn't going to reach my goal finish time and I was there for the fun!
Run
  • 1h 30m 32s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 14m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

My run was ok. Finished it in the time I thought I would. I did more running than walking! I did get an extra tenth of a mile in because one the second loop, I needed a potty break... Didn't time how long it took me, but I am sure it was atleast 5 min., if not more!
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on night before fuel.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Myself...just need to train more!

Bummer on the flat.  Had to throw your game off.  Yes a porta potty on the course would be great I thought last year when I did the oly.  Way to hang in there get the job done.

Nice work Jo! I like the fact that you didn't lose the "have fun" feeling despite the flat.....you are going to be fine at Syracuse!
