Pre-race routine:

Breakfast got to race site around 7'ish. Packed up everything the night before... race site is 15 minutes from my door. In tuning my bike the night before the race discovered my front shifter wasn't working and was boogering my front dérailleur... tinkered with it @ home and made a beeline to bike tech before the race. Was worried it might hinder me somehow, turns out my shifter is most likely shot and I didn't need my little ring... was just worried it would interfere with my big rings. Racetech hooked me up making sure it wasn't going to mess me up... great guy, he actually is my local bike shop owner.
Event warmup:

Swam about 250m, felt great, water temp not horribly warm.
Swim
  • 13m 2s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

My best OWS to date. Off season work is paying off. Was chatting on the shore when they announced 90 seconds to my wave start. Hit the water and went for the front inside corner area. Went with my clear goggles which was a great choice. Sighting was almost perfect, drafted a little, but couldn't find someone to draft on for long. Turn buoys were a bit congested and someone got me on my right arm with some sharp fingernails. Swam close to the shore as opposed to standing up earlier like I did last year. Felt great.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing different on race day, stuff to do is increase my speed.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Sort of a long T1, someone had put a purple swim cap @ the end of my row which helped finding my rack.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe hustle a little more, shoes didn't go on perfect, transition area was a little tight with bikes on my rack and someone had tons of stuff in their transition beside me... bike pump, backpack, etc.
Bike
  • 45m 11s
  • 17.25 miles
  • 22.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike is my strong suit right now. Didn't hammer it because I know and hate the run course. Great bike ride, enjoy this leg of races.
What would you do differently?:

As usual I probably could hammer it a bit more on this leg.
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Second race with my Zoots, didn't go on as easy as the last race, but a good overall transition.
What would you do differently?:

I'm nitpicking, but would have liked to cut this one by 15 seconds or so... maybe a bit more.
Run
  • 20m 14s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was OK, have a negative attitude about the run course. Don't like it and the uphill portion/s @ its outset, but not a bad performance on it I suppose.
What would you do differently?:

Probably could have paced the guy in my AG that ran it in 19'ish minutes that passed me.
Post race
Warm down:

Stood around and chatted with some folks, Gatorade or two with some pizza.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Push the pace here and there... this pertains to swim, bike and run.

Event comments:

The Setup people were really great in getting me into this one. Super appreciative and enjoyed a very well organized race. Will probably be doing this one every year... maybe I'll learn to love the run here.

Excellent race, I am impressed at the competition that showed up for this race. I figured results like yours would have placed a lot better.

Fantastic job! Clearly you've been working hard!
I hate the run too. I've hated it both times I've done this race. Gotten cramps both times, too. Hm...

Hey you - great race!  Learn to embrace the hill or use your hate to destroy it, but it is the signature segment of this event.  Incredible improvement from last year - that is a fantastic accomplishment Dave.
