One last BUMP. Just today, I realized that my tires, Michelin 3's, don't seem to last more than 2,500 miles. Prob too much pressure?

At any rate, I'm a tad bit surprised that the OP wasn't advised to experiment w/different pressures. I know, for example, that having gone from 110 to 100 psi for long rides made all the difference in the world as far as how I felt during & well after the ride. A lot more comfy. At 155 lbs, I'm going to try 90-95 psi for IM2.

Happy ridings.

I inflate my Stinger HED's to a min of 120 per HED's recommendation. I run GP4000's so I don't like going over 120.

I tend to trust Steve Hed, the dude knows what he is talking about.

On my trainer wheels, I go 110 for both.

I use Zipp tangente tires with challenge latex tubes.  I'll inflate the tires up to the recommended pressure according to their chart (rider weight).  115-119 on training days, 120 f/r on race day.

The only time I'll inflate higher than the recommended max psi. is if I have to leave the bike in the tansition area over night prior to race day.

My max says 120 and I usually go a little over that.

there are a number of reasons thats a bad idea.

Do tell.

Although the tires may feel faster when they are inflated very high, they aren't.

There are a number of threads here and on ST explaining why; the basic point is that instead of absorbing the little bumps in the road, your bike has to 'climb' them. Check this out for a good guideline. In addition to weight, road conditions and desired comfort play a role.

To OP: I weigh 140 on a good day, and ride around 100psi most of the time.

Thanks for the link, good info. FWIW I'm about 187#s and on most rides over 30 miles carry a pack @ about 10#s. I don't know but when I fill them up just a tad over the 120 and take the valve off the nipple I assume some of the air that escapes come from the tire, no idea how much.

I never thought of the tire going over or climibing if it's over inflated as opposed absorbing some of the "climb" or bumps and stuff along the road.

Thanks!!

yep tire bounces, you lose contact with the road (can affect handling), and if its wet at all can be unsafe.

also more chances of blowing out the tire if you hit something.

i'm 150 or so right now and ride mine at 110 (130 max PSI for the tires)
