You want to know the funny thing about this question? Both bikes are made by the same company with the exact same carbon. The Footon – Servetto team in the tour de France actually rode Kestrels that were branded as Fuji’s…

But to answer your question, ride them both and get the one that fits and feels better.

That's very interesting!  So, the kestrel is the better bike, but fuji wants to retain their brand as the higher end?  Hmmm.  I wonder why they did this?  And where did you learn this tidbit.  I still have a softspot in my heart for the Kestrel brand- as they pretty much created the carbon fiber bike in the late 80's.  They were on top at one time.  Now, I guess, Trek probably employs more carbon fiber engineers than all the other companies put together.

This answer is purely from a "looks" "sex appeal" standpoint.
1.) Airfoil
2.) D6
3.) 4000

Let me repharse that... They rode Kestrel TT bikes. The road bikes were Fuji's. Here is a picture of a "fuji" AKA Kestrel 4000. My guess is that they did this because it MIGHT be more aero than the Fuji or to adhere to the UCI guidlines on TT bikes. Riding other bikes that are rebranded happens ALL the time at the tour. Its not just bikes, its wheels, tires, rims even shoes this year.  It comes down to the big name riders preference as to their equipment or a sponsor not making whatever is needed.

But I agree with you Kestrel has a soft spot in my heart as well. There is the very first Kestrel carbon KM40 from the 80's hanging in a bike shop in Madison, WI that one day I will own.

And no, Trek does not employ the most carbon engineers. The last study that I saw, Giant actually did as they make most of the bikes that are on the market even some that say other brand names on them even American ones that say Trek and Specialized.

Yeah, that happens all the time, pro riders often rebadge their bike with their sponsors name.  Not sure how they get around the legalities, do we have an attorney in the audience?....

wow, that's a really smooth looking bike what's the 4000 frame go for, and are those Reynolds DV or RZ wheels?  Anyone ridden them before?

The front wheel is a SDV66T with custom stickers.

A similar bike (because you are not going to get one that looks like this) ranges from about $4,300-$10,000 at full MSRP.

Yeah I read about footon servetto riding those 4000s during the tour.I'm not sure if it was because the 4000 was faster or if it was because the D6 isn't uci legal. It's such a radical looking bike, I'm almost 100 percent positive the D6 isn't uci legal. Which doesn't matter to me since I'll be zipping back and forth on the queen k with it during triathlons.

My brother has the 2009 D-6 and loves it. He said his old Litespeed was too stiff (since it was titanium) and loves the "give" of the carbon over the T
