Swim
Comments: I was out in front from the beginning. Mark Snowise caught me in the last few hundred yards, so I drafted him and we finished together. What would you do differently?: I could have gone a little harder, I guess- but overall I felt good. Transition 1
Comments: socks got bunched up on my wet feet. I think my Balega's are losing their soft stretchiness that used to make them so easy to put on. Using a size small would be better as well. Getting wetsuit off my heels didn't exactly go quickly. Had to fiddle a little with my bicycle helmet strap. Then, I didn't clip my right foot in property. It was half clipped in for the first mile. Bike
Comments: Was surprised to feel my calves cramping so early, and my heart rate was 164 right out of the gate. Watched my HR closely this time - although I'm not sure that it helped. I think I do better based on feel. I was out in front from the start, but eventually got handily passed by 3 guys. What would you do differently?: Not thrilled about my pace today. I really should have done at least 18.5mph and was hoping for 19mph. Maybe that swim took more out of me than I realized, or I took too much time off since my last ride? Transition 2
Comments: No problems, but I'm sure I could take 10 seconds off this if I thought about it more. I had my garmin already moved to my wrist from the bike position, and already had my gloves off before I came in the chute. Got both shoes unbuckled and had one foot out, but couldn't get the other out. Not sure what my actual time was yet Run
Comments: Calves cramped up pretty good for the first 1/3 of a mile before they loosened up. Kept my HR in the low 160's which is above threshold. Gave it most of what I had left. Nobody next to me to race or pass- so no extra motivation there Post race
Warm down: hugged my daughter, drank some gatorade, ate 2 veggie burgers Event comments: This is a great little fun race. Just organized enough to pull it off. Thanks to Mark Snowise, and Stephan from Bike and Board for organizing the barbeque and volunteers. Well worth the $5 donation to the club. Simple, fun, friendly, casual. I did a swim/bike/run brick at lunch today- that actually did a world of good in making me feel loose and ready, as the 3 previous days I did nothing.
did a couple hundred yards of swimming
