If you wear a white hat in the sun you will be cooler in the long run. (Scientific proof: Arabs) Without sun the only real benefit I get is the sweat factor.

I wear a hat for the race day pictures.  Noone wants to see my sweaty, thinning hair in a photo. Laughing

Seriously, thin light colored hat works great for me.

x50 billion on the white hat..

My brooks one has a nice long bill which also does an awesome job of keeping the sun out of my face.

Count me in as another hat convert. I stated running with a hat last year. I find that in hot weather, a light colored tech hat works really well for me. As others have said, the light color helps reflect some light/heat, shades my face, and keeps the sweat out of my eyes. And once the hat is wet, either from sweat or intentional wetting at an aid station, I find it provides a nice evaporative cooling effect. I suppose it might make me feel a little hotter at the outset of the run, but actually tends to help me feel cooler later on.

I never wear a hat.  I'll go bareheaded for short runs, and if it's really hot and I need something to keep the sweat out of my eyes, I wear a bandanna pirate-style.  I love bandannas, because you can take them off and wipe your face with them, and they cover your head but are all ventilated, and if you're accident-prone like me they can be converted into a field bandage.

Also if you're worried about sunburning your scalp just get some of that spray sunscreen and spray it on your head before you go out.

I do wear hats when I'm hiking, because of the constantly looking uphill (and thus into the sun) but I take them off when I come down.

Visor in the Summer, Running skully in the winter, always!  I'm a sweater, need something to divert the flow, my eyebrows alone aren't up to the task!

Exactly the same. Too much sweat for these two eyebrows to handle.
