I suspect it will sell out quickly because of it's proximity to Philly & NY. I plan on signing up right away.

I wanted to wait to get some more cash together, but unfortunately I believe it will sell out quickly as well. Seems to be a lot of talk about the race. I will probably suck it up and fork over the cash and sign up right away tomorrow.

I can only speak for myself.... but personally, I'm in no rush to fork over $275 for a first year event before even seeing the course maps.... I'm sure with Ironman & the Philly tri folks involved, it will be a well-run race, but I think I probably won't sign up for it this year. There are plenty of smaller, less expensive, and more established HIM distance races I can target for 2011. I'll wait to see how the first year turns out, and maybe consider it a few years down the line (if I can stomach the entry fee....)

I'm in pretty much the same place.  I'm already planning on Musselman and Savageman next year, so it won't break my heart if I can't get into this one.

Unless I'm a computer idiot, if registration opens today it's not gonna fill up quickly since their website doesn't even have a registration link. No details either...

I'm in for my first 70.3.  I figure I'm better off in the cold than the heat, I say that now :P

I'm in too. At least when it's cold you can put more on. When it's hot there's only so much you can take off.

I'm in as well.  My first HIM.  When the time is right, if anyone in Philly needs a training partner let me know! I need someone to keep me motivated and on track

I don't know.  Yesterday was 1 year out, and it was COLD, especially in the AM.  I went out for a ride and was imagining coming out of the Deleware to a 45degree air temp.  Call me a wuss, but I'm re-considering for an early Sept HIM.  I make no excuses, I am a total wimp when it comes to cold!

Seriously....the run portion of the course is completely down...down...down....down....hill.

Strike that. I guess you guys will be going UPhill. If transition is going to be at the Delaware you guys will have to go in the opposite direction....sorry!

I would imagine 'out' will be uphill and 'back' will be downhill.  I think T2 is in Stroudsburg so we won't be running up from the river.  This race will be epic.  I'm pumped.

I signed up for this race last night. Now I'm a bit freaked out. I did 1 sprint this year and didn't even do the run portion of that due to injury. I've got a year to train so I know it's doable but I'm still having a little bit of buyers remorse.
The cold is the least of my worries right now.
Oh well, once I start training I'll be fine.
I have a half marathon this weekend so this week I'm tapering the run so I guess I'll bike a little and get a jump on it.

Plunking the money down has an amazing motivational affect! You'll be ready.

I'm a Stroudsburg native and I also ran the Steamtown Marathon on 10-10-10 this year.  In the 15 years of Steamtown, the 40 degree start was the coldest ever.  Low 50s is usually the norm for us at the beginning of October.  Granted, the northeast in October...a swim in the Delaware will always be cold.

I signed up today!  I am officially terrified.  I did my first 2 triathlons (sprints) this year.  I grew up in the Poconos and would love to be a part of the inaugural event!  Yikes!

Linda - I am with you.  I did my first tris this year (3 sprints) and am signed up for 2 Olys and the Poconos HIM next year.  Nervous is an understatement!  Nothing like a little motivation to get you out of bed in the am.  Plenty of time at the UMLY this winter I think!

I am considering doing this as my first HIM. Any thoughts on what the swim will be like?  Current/chop etc.?  Last time I checked there wasn't any course info.  What is the area like generally?  I live in pancake flat coastal RI but could find some hills to train in.  Looks like quite a few first timers are in so this could be great fun!!

Could someone maybe move this to the iron thread instead of  Penn forum?  I actually found it through goggle!

I am in too. There were some more details on the maps posted on the facebook group the other day. Not too much new. Apparently they are getting final approvals for the bike course and then will release the maps after that. Modified rectangular swim from Smithfield beach, then River Road north of the beach access to roads south (maybe 209?) back to S-burg.

I am also a native of the area coming back to race from NJ. Am looking forward to it, seeing as I rode and swam all over the place in that area as a kid and teenager.
