Subject: tubeless tires

I just got new wheels and tubeless tires which are much much easier for me to change them than a clencher. I know they are more expensive but they give me the piece of mind when I am out biking long.

My question is this: I fill my tires prior to riding to 120, the next am they are pretty much flat is that normal with this kind of tire? They are on correctly (not with glue but with the tape).

Any thoughts on this?

Thank you!! ;-)

They should not be flat maybe a 10 lb drop or so a day but should stabalize after about 80 lbs or so. I converted mine to tubeless with stans kit and like them that way. Next time you fill them up put soapy water around the rim and you will see where the air is escaping and can work on that area. Go to stans .com and watch the video it is very informative. Also going tubeless means lower tire press. for better riding and performance drop it to 100-90 and ride it.

I think you mean tubular, not tubeless. A tubeless tire is a clincher that doesn't use a tube. Much like your car tire.

A tubular is a tire with the tube sealed up inside the tire and is glued, or taped, to the rim. If the tube inside is latex (most vittoria's and zipp tangente's for example) you will lose air overnight. It shouldn't go completely flat in one day, but it can lose a considerable amount of air.

This is not a defect and in fact latex tubulars will have reduced rolling resistance to their butyl counterparts.

Personally I favor gluing to taping. All of the rolling resistance benefits you're gaining from using a latex tubed tubular is lost with the tape.

Thank you for the responses! and yes I did mean tubular ;-). I have now been told by several people to throw away the tape and use the glue so I guess that is my next venture.

Tri on.....
