Comments: FREAKIN' SWIMMING....ugh. I could NOT get a good rhythm going. Not sure if the caffeinated gel had anything to do with it, or if I just need more OWS practice, or what. But geez, I need to be faster! What would you do differently?: practice more OWS and not try a new gel with caffeine in a race (duh) Transition 1
Comments: So I'm jogging with my bike in the transition area and I get yelled at for running. They say, "there's no running with bikes in the transition area." WHAT? are you kidding? The boat ramp REALLY hurts the feet, and the freakin chip seal in the parking lot isn't much better! The transition area is HUGE with almost 3K people in it. Unreal What would you do differently?: Work on getting some good callouses on my feet. :) Bike
Comments: Too many people. Going up the hills, there was lots of weaving. Worried about hitting someone on several occasions! Fun ride though What would you do differently?: just drink more. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition, even though I was again yelled at for jogging with my bike. ;) (is this a triathlon or not?) What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: Good run. I forgot that there are actually hills on the run course. I had thought it was pretty flat, but it wasn't. :) What would you do differently?: just run faster Post race
Warm down: huh, I always get so wrapped up in talking to people after the race, that I forget to cool down. Found markdills38 and his wife (she was easy to spot since we were both wearing Javelin stuff). Hung out with Stacers and her husband, and Macdaddy while Tara went wild at the playground. What limited your ability to perform faster: SWIMMING! MUST GET FASTER AT SWIMMING! Event comments: Too big of a race. It's crazy! I do this race b/c I talk people into doing it as their first tri. Several of my coworkers did this race and did great! But I don't think I'd do it again, unless I've persuaded someone to do it! You HAVE to be there by 6:30 (spectators included) and you CAN'T leave until 11 at the earliest. Then you have to walk your bike 1.5 miles to your car and then get stuck in a traffic jam for about 45 minutes b/c there's only one road. The logistics are tough. Anyway, it's a fun race, but just a long day. :) Last updated: 2005-07-17 12:00 AM
