Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5. Prepped bottles, ate bagel with PB, got to race early. Set up transition, felt prepared. Double checked bike shoes. Ate a banana.

Swam for about 5 min. Ate a GU during pre-race meeting. Took 3 puffs of inahler.
Swim
  • 34m 26s
  • 1584 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was what I worried about the most. I felt good and got into a rhythm for most of it. Didn't really bump or crash into anyone. Had an issue when I got turned after the 1st lap and I tried sighting for the buoy to take me in after the 2nd lap. Should have waited, but I got a little anxious about it. It broke my rhythm a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster. I def think I can get down to a 2min/100 swim in the next year.
Transition 1
  • 01m 36s
Comments:

I was super happy about this transition. It clicked for the first time ever!

Bike

  • 28 miles
  • 16.57 mile/hr
Comments:

This is my FASTEST bike in a swim EVER!!! I am so proud of myself since the bike isn't my strength at all. I planned for 2 hrs and when I got through the first loop in 50 min, I knew I could repeat it which I came very close to. I slowed up a bit at the end to prep for the run and shake my legs out and get my breathing under control.
What would you do differently?:

I would bike faster!!! I'm really happy with the result as I've made such big strides in just one year :)
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

Super fast, even for me. Decided to go without hat. It helped to take my biking gloves off en route to the dismount line.

Run
  • 59m 40s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Pushed it pretty hard on the run. Was fine until mile 4 when the sun was really beating down on one portion. Most of the course had tree coverage. Drank pretty well- could have had a bit more, but I was ok. When I got hot I felt nauseous, but ate a clif blok and felt better a few min later.
What would you do differently?:

Run a little harder. I should have also brought my own drink for running.
Post race
Warm down:

Had to get inhaler ASAP. Did some stretching and ate pizza and oreos. Drank a lot of fluid.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being a novice. Otherwise, the temp was great and I really performed better than I expected. I'm really exited about today and feel really good about my accomplishment!!

Event comments:

Good race, well organized and a great venue. We stayed for the weekend and it was nice to relax before the race. I should mention that I tapered really well and got tons of rest the week before which contributed to my good race.

Same to you!  It's so nice to put a real person to a BT handle at a race.
