Sunny
Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 237/750
Age Group = Male 35-39
Age Group Rank = 46/97
Pre-race routine:

Up at 0400. Usual breakfast with a detour back home to get my wallet. That set my behind by a good half hour. Then the 70+mile drive to Cypress.
Swim
  • 12m 20s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Once again my swim stunk. I could not get my breath. I'm pretty sure it wasn't nerves as I felt really calm. I didn't take a buddy's advice and get in a good warm-up swim. I'll try that in the next race and hopefully it will help.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure to do a swim warm-up.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

The timing mat/chip malfunctioned and I only have a T1+Bike time of 40:46.7 (as did about 39 others in my age group). I think my time was close to 1:30 though. It's hard to say since my Garmin was on the bike and it starts with the bike in multisport mode. I could have used my Timex, but I didn't even have the snap to start it at the beginning of the swim. Duh.
What would you do differently?:

I liked putting my bike shoes on in T rather than having them clipped to the pedals. I can get them on pretty quick and run in them to the mount line as well as in my bare, tender feet.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 14 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a strong bike for me. I had around 21mph average according to my Garmin. The course got a little crowded at times and I sprinted past some folks to avoid a possible penalty.
What would you do differently?:

I need to go easier on the bike to save more for the run.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

I really sort of took my time through T2. I was calm and tried to go easy to catch my breath before the run.
Run
  • 31m 30s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 09m  min/mile
Comments:

I was HOT on this run. My pace felt slow and I kept wondering if my HIM training at such a slower pace didn't hurt me. The first mile was good. The second mile was tough. The last 1.5miles (which I don't think was actually 1.5miles) was better.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked waaaaayyy over to the team tent to sit for a few minutes and catch my breath.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not being in good enough condition.
