Ironman North America
Total Time = 13h 28m 46s
Overall Rank = 1616/2611
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 259/355
Swim
  • 1h 13m 41s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt nice and relaxed the entire time.
What would you do differently?:

I stayed wide right for my first lap to stay out of the heavy congestion; 45 min. My second loop was 28 minutes primarily due to the major current. I could have taken the inside for both loops.
Transition 1
  • 13m 25s
Comments:

Stopped briefly to say hi to the family. I took my sweet time and enjoyed the clean port-o-let for ~6 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

I would have brought a magazine in the port-o-john if I had thought of it.
Bike
  • 7h 27m 25s
  • 112 miles
  • 15.02 mile/hr
Comments:

I was drinking as if it was hotter, drank too much and felt sick at mile 90. Stopped all intake and felt fine after that.
What would you do differently?:

I should have shot for 17 mph average ~6.5hrs rather that 7.5hrs. I played it way too conservative with too much focus biking easy so that I could run the entire marathon.
Transition 2
  • 06m 24s
Comments:

Valet bike racking was awesome.
Run
  • 4h 27m 53s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 10m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Stopped at an ambulance to duct tape my ankles after band aids did not work at an aid station.
What would you do differently?:

If I had known that my heart rate would have stayed so low I would have run harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Sub sandwich, water, juice, pasta, meatballs, shower and then a beer at the midnight finish. Loved having the whole family there. Luann rubbed down my legs for me.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

As a rookie, my conservative mentality prevented me from going faster.
