Subject: Full Body Wet suit vs. speed
I have a 1/2 mile swim this Fall in approx. 70-72 degree water. A friend is willing to let me use his suit but......Does it really help for a short distance??I would love to save energy and swimming is my "weakest link". Whats the skinny?????

A wetsuit will help with ANY distance!

Try out your friend’s suit and I guarantee you'll be wanting to buy one of your own.

The skinny is that taking off a wetsuit, sleeved or without sleeves, takes no time at all. By the time you hit the transition area, the suit is already at your waist. In the water, a wetsuit will 1) provide you with a significant amount of bouyancy. You basically float on top of the water. This will help your speed and keep your heart rate lower. 2) a wetsuit will keep you warmer. However, if you borrow the suit, be sure to try it out in the pool. It might take a little time to get used to the restricting feeling of the suit.
